Telkommobile is offering a 20GB contract which includes a Huawei B315 LTE router/modem.

From photos on the web it has 2 black and 3 yellow ethernet ports.

I have a Fanvil 3XP VOIP phone (I had it on a farm with dish to dish internet and a Tenda wireless N300 High Power Router model 3E395 which I still have).

If I take this Telkommobile deal with the Huawei B315 LTE router/modem will I be able to connect my Fanvil Voip phone to it and then get a Voip service from a suitable provider (which one - I am waiting for replies from Voxtelecom and Dsltelecom)?

I am a dummie as regards technical knowledge and jargon.

I live in Boston, Bellville, Cape Town.

Thanks

Telkommobile shop says no you cannot connect connect a VOIP phone through a wireless modem such as the Huawei B315. You can only do it through ADSL (Huh!!) If you can only Voip through ADSL i.e. a Telkom line what is the purpose of having a Voip in addition to your Telkom phone.

So I went to CellC. On their 20GB + 20Gb contract you also get a Huawei router/modem and their salesman says if your Voip phone can go via wireless it will work through their modem/router.

He suggested I bring my Voip Fanvil phone to the shop to test it on wireless.

(Ouch! I see 81 people have viewed my msg and none have been able to give me advice)

Hi,

Fanvil IP phone, model X3P,

5V=1A,

PoE enable,

web login, Username - admin, Password - admin

Thanks

I've only now discovered that the suppliers are Scoop Distributers (Pty)Ltd and are situated in Drill Road, Montague Gardens.

So someone is telling you stories...

Very basic setup (and it does work, quality of service depended), connect your Fanvil phone to the router with a network cable (yellow connectors on LTE router), connect phone to power, log in on the web interface of the phone and configure SIP details.
You are sorted!

20Gig is overkill if this is only for voice calls. 3 active users use less than 1gig of data per month.

Test your area with a prepaid sim, or ask a friend with Telkom Mobile and a LTE phone to come and do some signal tests.
To test if the VoIP calls would work, we can exchange test details on PM.

BTW, this is how the connectors look like, not 3 but 4.

Why not just add the SIP details of the VOIP provider directly into the router and then plug a normal telephone or cordless telephone in and use it like that?

It works perfectly on the B315 and my Telkom uncapped LTE. I use Greydot mostly but I also used Mweb Talk and Freshphone on the router and it works perfect.

I just plugged in a normal cordless telephone in and it works very well.

For your VOIP providers you can use Freshphone which is not too bad in terms of pricing and you can port a Telkom fixed number to them otherwise Mweb Talk gives free DID numbers with no monthly rental but calls are not that cheap.

The VOX Vobi sip looks pretty cool too and very well priced too.

Telkom shop is wrong. If your phone has one Ethernet port, is compatible with your SIP server and works on Cell C, it should also work on Telkom as well.

Alternatively as cavedog says, enable SIP client on the B315s and connect ordinary analog phone to the RJ-11 socket on the router. B315s happens to miss calls at times, but if you enable Phrack signalling option on the router, it works better.

Your IP phone will/should work on any network.
Just insert the details you get from your VoIP provider into the phone
