I just got my DSL line installed by DSL. They came 6 months after I placed my order (but I'll save that for another thread). I have a problem with setting up my router (WRT54G). The line works fine although I want to setup my router in a specific way (I have another non-WAN router lying around if this will help).

Basically I want to have my router setup in Router mode so that my wireless devices (iPhone and PS3) can connect easily to the internet, but I want to still be able to make manual PPPOE connections through the network so I can connect to my local only account whenever and also let people coming to LAN at my place connect to their own account.

How would I go about setting this up?

You can only do that if your router supports Bridge & Router mode simultaneously. I don't know of any off hand.

The only way to achieve what your trying to do (that I know of), without your router supporting Router & Bridged, is to have a gateway PC.

Manicooller,

Perhaps read what you wrote there as it does not make much sense ......

Need to give specifics of what equipment you have and how you intend to connect and use it.

i.e.
Billion ADSL modem
WRT54G WiFi router

In case of WRT54G, you can load different firmware (i.e. OpenWRT Kamikaze or one of the offshoots) that will allow you to configure your router to make multiple PPPOE connections depending on your routing table.. Assuming that WRT54G is used as AP as connected to your modem trough the WAN port, you will not need to bridge to your modem...

The OP has already visited the Linksys thread and is hopefully sorted.

Ye I found that thread _JUST_ after I posted. Turns out my router is the Linksys WAG54G2 and isn't currently supported by DD-WRT! This saddens manicooller :'(

Any idea what the best/cheapest router is to buy to use DD-WRT on?

Sorry to hear that. The Asus WL-520GU works well with DD-WRT. It has a lot of neat features and is +-R400 online.

i dont understand how some people are waiting 6 months for their adsl.....i have done adsl about 5 times before, and never waited longer than 3 weeks, once i got it within 6 days, phones the friday, and was in by the next thursday.

This is EXTREMELY easy to setup without requiring reflashing your router with DD-WRT. Just simply run an ethernet cable from the WAN port of the router to one of it's own LAN ports, and then connect the ethernet cable of your ADSL modem to one of the other LAN ports on the router. Bada bing, bada boom, the router can make its own PPPOE session and act as a router, and any client pc's connected to the router can also make their own PPPOE sessions (or just use the router as a gateway of course).
