Some may remember from previous threads I started that me and my buddy next door share a telkom adsl line. Till now we had the router in bridge mode, and we both connected on our own.

So recently I was thinking to dump the whole routesentry setup, and have just one account to connect.

Now I know I can still connect each time I switch on my pc, but I was thinking, is it possible to put my account details in the router, so that I stay connected the whole time, and my buddy still connecting with route sentry each time he wants to? He dont want to be connected the whole time, and we still want separate accounts, so thats why we must still stay separate. An if possible, what settings must I change?

Thanks

Check if the router has an option called 'PPP passthrough'.

what router do you have? it should be reasonably easy, just you might have a problem if he forgets to put on routesentry and he just connects so it might eat at your cap...

Just checked, and it doesn't have that option.

So then I guess it isn't possible, too bad. But anyway, thanks for the replies.

the option is PPPoE not PPPtE but ya if your friend decide not to connect then he would eat your bandwidth as he still would have access to your modem and thereby your bandwidth
