Routers, new dial up profile, sim unlocking.

Hi sow about two months ago I bought a Huawei R218h router at a reasonably low price but the only catch they said it could only be used with a Vodacom SIM .I took it any way hoping that I could easily unlock it .

Two months down the line I'm still stuck .I first tried finding the unlock code sow that I could unlock it that way but I could not reach where I was supposed use the pin , also tried to use a couple of programs to no success .Recently I have found a theory that there is no such thing as routers being Locked , the solution is creating a new dial up profile or debranding the router .I'd like a tutorial on how to do either .

By the way I still have a warranty on the router sow a solution where I don't open the router would be highly appreciated .

I too was educated in the townships. However, I taught myself how to write better.There are basic rules with regard to writing for the simple reason, it makes readers understand you better. Why, if they don't understand you or in this case are so annoyed they wont assist you.

Back to you question, I am not sure if a cellular device can be network locked. I do know that a cellphone cant be network locked but am not sure about a cellular router.
 
I have fixed the commas ,grammar, and my English to the best of my ability .Now an answer to the original question would be appreciated.

Thank you for the head's up .What you said is quite understandable .

Thank you also for attempting to answer the question ...though I suspect you misunderstood what my question was .To elevate this problem I have included a picture of the router ,sow you may have a better idea of what I am talking about .

I can use a Vodacom SIM only in the router ,the intention of this thread is to learn what I have to do to be able to use any other SIM preferably a Telkom sim.

Wrong. All cellular devices can be network locked, SIM locked or other way restricted by the firmware.
 
you should be able to download the stock firmware from the manufacturers site if the provider has loaded their own firmware..

Ok now thats a promising start ,then how do I reprogram the device?

I'll give an update after I have downloaded the stock firmware .

Interesting .Im using windows 8 will it work or will I also need to downgrade ?

You need to understand and appreciate that as a new member it is our job to initiate you and give you kak so you may be part of the forum family.

First point, what happens if you insert a telkom SIM? You might need to change the apn to "internet" but it should work (assuming you are in a Telkom coverage area)

Forcing a flash works but you need it to be recognized a certain way and you have to connect a jumper inside after opening it to force it into a mode where it's ready to accept the new firmware.

Why would he need to go through all that effort to insert a new sim and change the apn?
 
Now, now boys - not good to be nasty to the new fella :) English is not OPs home language... I hope.

the last time i did this was with a b315, there should be how-to instructions, once you find the download.

Ok sow I have downloaded a couple of firmwares compatible with my router .Though I had to download them on random sites as the where no where to be found on the huawei website .Another factor is I'm also skeptical not only about whether the firmware will work but which is worth trying out as I have one version about 7 mb in size and another about 80 mb .Very contradictory !

Then yes they did provide instructions which looked easy enough except for the part where they mention that I will need to provid a flash code generated by my IMEI code .
Where can I get that FOR FREE ? and which firmware do you you recommend I use?
