Routers, new dial up profile, sim unlocking.

A massage to @access @Speedster and @sajunky .I figured its best I write this massage to update you on the current situation regarding the router .No I haven't tested out any of your latest advice and the reason for that is these past to days have been hectic as hell .
Yesterday I convinced my self I would go through the process as tired as I was to see what would happen but all I succeed in was dozing of in front of my screen .With that said tomorrow is going to be more of the same ,meaning the only real chance I will get to test out your latest suggestion is Saturday .If I do get time tomorrow though I will most definitely go to work on the router .

I hope your all well.

Hello .....Hello everyone .A big thank you to all that were with me through this journey .I'm Glad to say problem solved !

As @Speedster and @rh1 have said these routers are not network locked but rather we have to configured them to be able to use other sim cards (apn settings) .
Then a special thank you to @Speedster who knew the answer and had the patience to say it until I understood it ,if only I understood your solution from the very beginning this would have been solved years ago .
Then another special thank you to @sajunky for giving me a step by step tutorial .Your explanation was sow detailed even a novice regarding technology could easily understand it ,and adding the vodafone pdf was a nice touch that was crucial to my success .
Then a Big thank you to @access for all your input even though I did not use it in the end ....and another thank you for referring me to @sajunky who was pivotal in finding the solution .

and before I forget thank you to the welcome comity also for all the Kak at the beginning:giggle: Hahaha .

Good to hear it is sorted. Thanks for the feedback, so we have confirmation that these routers are not network locked indeed.

Don't be a stranger now, you seem like a funny guy.

Indeed mystery sorted .Then sorry for my last replay ,not sure what happened to the actual text I wrote @sajunky .

Good to know that there is a solution. I almost had a panic attack after I realised that I had purchased a R216H Lte Mifi Router that was restricted to Vodacom. I'm using a rain SIM and they sent me the configuration, so I'm sure I will figure it out once the router has arrived.
So those folks who ask for cash to unlock routers are scammers. I just learnt something. Thank you people.

Yeah it's been quite a few years since ICASA or whoever prohibited vendors selling locally to "lock" hardware. At most you need to create a profile with "internet" as the apn and *99# as the dial-up number. There are a few exceptions where a different apn is needed though.

hi Guys, please can you tell me how to resolve this? My friend has the same router and I am not sure how to update the app because it keeps going to a Vodafone portal.

the router doesn’t work with huawei hi suite. How did you change the app settings? Where does one go?

Hi @Bhoza

I am sorry, I don't know this router. From the pic, it is Huawei version of the router.
Before debranding attempts I would start with this:

Where it is? Perhaps this quide will help:
https://www.vodafone.com/content/da.../Vodafone-Mobile-Wi-Fi-Web-App-User-Guide.pdf

Login to the router and change default password to your own (see page 7 of the guide). Login again with new password if neccessary. Navigate to the page 10 of the guide, see a picture on the top, then navigate to the same place on the router's menu menu and change account type to "Custom". In the Custom mobile network connection settings you can change APN (according to the guide). You don't need to change anything else, leave username and password fields empty. Remember to save settings before logout.

Hope it helps, pls. let us know.
HI ,may you kindly assist the APN as referred above as (according to the guide)as the link is no longer available.

Hello @Akyla and @Tlakzen the quoted massage has all the instructions you need ,and if the link doesn't work just google for the pdf user manual for your router .Good luck.

I just change the Profile on my R218H, that I bought online from Vodacom. Have used a Telkom, Afrihost and Rain SIM in mine, find out what the required APN is for the network, the SIM bei g used requires, number is *99#.
