RTX 3080

The Gigabyte 3080 Eagle have 6 SP-CAPS, can't exactly OC, but it doesn't illustrate the issues that the 'many' others have experienced. I don't know whether it was reviewed with the latest driver, but it is priced MSRP (in the US) and is a little better than the FE.

I also don't know whether it is a reviewer sample which may be changed at a later date. It does seem that the driver update resolved the issue, and that some GPUs don't clock higher than 2100MHz (which I believe was the indicative Boost Clock limit in any case).

No. It was a voltage issue. Most actually report higher clocks. My avg core clock speeds have also gone up by 30mhz when set to stock.

As the news went on it does seem that the CAPS issue was overexaggerated. Gamers Nexus also said that they won't say it is the issue until there is a certainty, they do however blame Nvidia by only providing the AIB partners with limited driver support. I don’t know why some AIB partners acknowledged the issue an SP-CAPS issue, and why others said it wasn’t the issue but that they would monitor the situation. Say it isn’t a CAPS issue, then some AIB partner will still apply revisions due to consumer uncertainty.

As Gigabyte stated,

GIGABYTE

In response to the recent reports speculating that the use of POSCAP capacitors on the GeForce RTX 3080/3090 graphics cards could lead to stability issues and crashes, we would like to clarify the issue with the following statement:

1. It is false that POSCAP capacitors independently could cause a hardware crash. Whether a graphics card is stable or not requires a comprehensive evaluation of the overall circuit and power delivery design, not just the difference in capacitor types. POSCAPs and MLCCs have different characteristics and uses, thus it is not true to assert that one capacitor type is better than the other.

2. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 30 graphics cards are designed in accordance with NVIDIA specifications, and have passed all required testing, thus the product quality is guaranteed. GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080/3090 GAMING OC and EAGLE OC series graphics cards use high-quality, low-ESR 470uF SP-CAP capacitors, which meet the specifications set by NVIDIA and provide a total capacity of 2820u in terms of GPU core power, higher than the industry’s average. The cost of SP-CAP capacitors is not lower than that of MLCCs. GIGABYTE values product integrity highly and definitely does not reduce costs by using cheap materials.

NVIDIA has released a driver (version 456.55) on September 29, 2020 that improves stability. Users are advised to update to the latest driver for optimized performance. For users who encounter power-related issues with GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards, GIGABYTE will provide product replacement, free of charge.

GIGABYTE has been constantly improving and optimizing product quality, especially in terms of thermal designs, to provide the best gaming experience to the consumers for decades. For the latest AORUS GeForce RTX 30 graphics card series, we have also paid extra attention to the cooling performance and introduced industry-leading solutions such as MAX-Covered Cooling to ensure that the operation of each component is stable.

I also don't know how some people concluded that the SP-CAPS are weak caps. This engineer added a worthy discussion point on Reddit,

That's what happens when people listen to JayzTwoCents on technical issues :D

I am currently undecided whether to go ASUS TUF or Gigabyte Eagle, both are getting raving reviews in comparison to the FE. I only hope that there are GPUs available come November in North America. AMD should also be available around then, but that is all pending on whether AMD has a competitive video coding engine.

A bit out of the loop w.r.t GPUs lately. Is nVidia releasing a super series of these cards as well? If so, when?

I am sure a Ti/ Super will be looming about, but that announcement will be in response to AMD. It is best to wait on the 'Big' Navi announced. Those who teat on Lisa T. Su are all in the opinion that Big Navi will be bigger, or comparable, to the 3080.

then Adored, well, he believes AMD may have a chance now, but that Nvidia's next GPU may scare AMD schitless. This GPU isn't the Super, Ti or whatever, but to wherever Nvidia is taking Ampere now.

I don't care, I want a GPU now which does gaming and production best.

Why not the palit if I may ask? Plenty guys on carbonite that achieve great results out of them, including me.

If I'm not mistaken both caps are a must, SP-Caps and MLCCs. This was according to another engineer which I need to find the video. I've watched so many though. Not sure I'll go through them all again.

I hardly doubt there will be a 3080s or ti. Samsung 8nm can't really clock faster. Their only option would be to ad more CUDA cores and memory.

I will purchase whichever is available in the US come November sometime. It is all pending on availability, and I have other hardware which will also be brought in which is either not available here or which is being gouged to death. I already have orders taking more than two-months coming in, and the longer I wait the more interesting the excuses have become.

I'll wait for the dust to settle...will probably look into a Ryzen 5800x or something before deciding on a graphics card in a couple months.

There were leaks of future upgraded models of the 3080 with additional ram , looks like nvidia is waiting for the Navi to be released.

Yea. I am aware of the 3080 20GB model. However, I doubt it will be faster. If it has 20GB of vram and is faster, it will be almost a 3090. Makes no sense.

Took delivery of my Palit RTX 3080 this morning. Testing happening this evening.

The best view on the matter which is now remedied in any case,

Steve should note that Jay most likely did his video to break the news to the ordinary YouTube viewer which watch tech videos. Views. People are gullible.

Jayztwocents. He speaks so mach crap so often. Often doesn't actually know what he is talking about. Stupidly childish too. Aimed at 12 year olds.

If you want well researched tech opinions / reviews, GamersNexus and Hardware Unboxed are the go-to channels.

The Steve's are the best.

The only reason to watch Jay is when he does case mods which are generally quite good.

Did you guys see the drama between Hardware Unboxed and AdoredTV, it is settled now, however, Adored made the apology and HU did accept it,

but Adored pretty much said that HU is cheating the Nvidia benchmarks amongst other things. I see the Tweets have been deleted, however the replies can still be read.

Things are getting hot with the AMD crowd.

Never paid attention to AdoredTV - he makes his living feeding the hype machine. Watch reviewers, not rumormongers.

Official news - the 3070 launch was delayed by Nvidia to 1 day after AMD's RDNA2 media launch. Now that's spicy :p...what is leather jacket man up to?

I don't know hey, Moore's Law Is Dead have leaked a lot in his video he say have been provided to him by insiders and higher ups at AMD,

who knows?

From my perspective, AMD got Nvidia with the 5700/5700XT which made Nvidia react with price reductions. I think Nvidia wants the 3070 to do what AMD did with their 5700XT, to be positioned as the sweetspot, and they still have the opportunity to play with the $499 mark. Anything below that they can bridge with the 3060 or 3060Ti as rumoured. They need their markets covered, and there is a good chance that AMD may have something which can compete with the 3080 which leaves us with a price war which will do the consumers good. The 3070 needs to be the sweetspot, or so Nvidia would desire.

All I want is healthy competition.
