well I really think that some of those Springbok call ups were really deserving, especially to Mvovo,Lambie,Alberts and Daniels and I wish them good luck for their Springbok careers.

I just got up from a nap. My bad :o

I can already see Frans Steyn or Lambie having to cover in the midfield if something happens.

Would rather have dropped Elton Jantjies(why do we need 3 flyhalves) and picked another centre. Not Adi though, rather Andries Strauss, Wynand Olivier or even Meyer Bosman.
 
Well this rugby season is on its final legs....but next years its WC!!!!! And from what I've seen this weekend with the Aussies vs the Kiwi, we've got a lot of work ahead of us.
 
Gurthrö Steenkamp was on Monday named the Saru Player of the Year for the 2010 season.

The Vodacom Blue Bulls prop captured the crown at the end of a fabulous domestic season during which he helped his side claim their third Vodacom Super 14 title.

Steenkamp’s sublime performances for the Springboks this year as well as his efforts for the Vodacom Bulls saw him claim the award ahead of some outstanding competition.

Also nominated were Gio Aplon, Juan de Jongh, Francois Hougaard and Schalk Burger.

Xerox Lions flyhalf Elton Jantjies was named Young Player of the Year; the Vodacom Bulls were Team of the Year and Allister Coetzee was chosen as Absa Coach of the Year among the other main awards, which are voted for by rugby journalists.

Vodacom Western Province wing Gio Aplon was selected by his peers as Players’ Player of the Year.

Jantjies claimed a second award on Monday evening as the SA under-20 Player of the Year, following his outstanding performances for the Baby Boks at this year’s IRB Junior World Championships in Argentina, where they ended the tournament in third position.

I'm a huge Sharks fan, and really think Elton is a good flyhalf, but come on surely Lambie deserved that award as young player of the year?? Honestly that doesn't sound right, almost got most points in a final by a player too. And on another note, the Bulls is the team of the year? lolwut?! This was their worst season by far surely, but somehow they win, what is the reason for them winning, how on earth do they beat the WP or the Sharks in the category?
 
Quite disgusting really that the CC winners are not even on that list once ...... really disgusting but not surprising at all. If it had been anyone but the Sharks winning, you'd STILL have that fact being splashed all over the country. Fscking dogs the rugby community outside of KZN.

Definately not their best season, but let’s not forget that these awards are for 2010. 2010. Not 30 Oct 2010 7PM. Afair the sharks pretty much got their arses handed to them in the super 14. So both WP and the BB did infact have the better overall season.

Well he coached a real ****ty WP side from nowhere to both the Currie cup and s14 finals. Again, 2010… not 30 Oct 2010. So I won’t say it’s a bad choice.
I would agree with Lambie. The oke was a moster in the last few months. Can’t quite understand why he’s not junior of the year.

I feel the same. John mitchell or Plum should have gotten coach of the year. Wp get to 2 finals, yay what does the coach have to do with that, it was the wallet of Rassie and the players own need to win.
I'm amazed that Lambie got nothing but yet Jantjies gets the award? That's just not right no matter which way you look at it.

Mmmmm - Coach of the year. Ja, those WPs did make two finals. Well done! I can't help but feel there is a but:

...BUT if the BULLS sent the A-Team for the last match, perhaps WP would've finished 4th and only made a semi.
...BUT the WP were literally hammered (and beautifully so too) last weekend.

I personally think Naka was the coach of the year because he constantly has to work with a side that gets raped by the richer unions and still shows incredible improvement and performance. Cheetahs did way better in the S14 this year and achieved as much in the CC as they did last year, bar their semi. Actually, they finished the CC better this year (3rd) than last (4th).

And Lambie. I will not compare him to other players in that position but rather to the winner - Elton - and say, sorry Lambie - you were sorely overlooked. When does the judging and decision making take place? Sunday after the CC? Or before? I suspect well before - like 2,3 weeks ago.

Even then. Jantjies?????

And I am no fan the shakes....
 
Meh I don't know. WP was nowhere a season ago. Now they're not to shaby.

These awards don't really mean anything appart from some nice huisgenoot stories. So it's not something to get all misty about imo. It's like the oscars. I bet Lambie doesn't give a **** that he didn't get the award. He played his hart out and his is the bok team. He's all over the media. And he definately has a way better chance to get some proper game time.

Got to wonder how the Sharks got so badly shafted in the awards. I'll admit I am incredibly biased, but sure Plum or John Micthell should have got the coach award ahead of Weer Probeer? How often were they not coach of the month in during the Currie Cup?

The Sharks' players good enough to win the Currie Cup. Also, their S14 season wasn't their greatest, but after losing their 5 games, they were 7 and 1 in their next 8. But no awards?

I supposed I have to accept that the Sharks will never be favoured with the big-knobs in South African rugby. Such is life! Regardless I support the greatest rugby franchise! That's good enough for me ;)

Let me first state that I am a WP supporter. Dude, if the coach has nothing to do with WP getting to the 2 finals, then why do they have one and why does all the other teams feel that they need one. Allister did really well this season albeit that we didn't win anything. I know there are a lot of but's but that goes both ways.

Fact is that Sharks didn't have the best S14 and we all know that if the Bulls didn't have most of their first team playing in the tri-nations and to a lesser extent WP, the Currie Cup log would have looked a whole lot different and if that would have happened, I would think that the Bulls would have won this competition. Because, and I don't like admitting this, The Bulls are the best franchise in this country at the moment.

The Lambie/Jantjies thing - I don't know. If you asked me at round 12 of the CC I would have said Jantjies and know I would say Lambie, but I don't know if it was just because of the CC final or the fact that I saw more of him of late.

And again on the coach of the year, giving John Mitchell the award would in my eyes be a little pre-mature - He has done allot of good, but lets wait and see. In my book, if they didn't give it to Allister it had to be Naka, but I think Allister is the deserved winner.

I don't know, maybe me being a WP supporter makes me biased, but this is how I see it.
