Runners : What's your PBs so far?

5K 24mins
10K 54mins
21K 1h52mins
42k 4h40mins
Comrades last year 11h57mins

Not running consistenly enough to improve on the times , entered for the Comrades again for the back to back medal howver work has been so busy hardly had time to get the neccessary training in.

Good times you got there! And well done on the comrades, I would love to some day do that.

I should probably go longer than half marathon sometime, but right now its the perfect distance for me and I really enjoy running them without having any pain or discomfort afterwards. Did the West Coast half this weekend and without even pushing I managed 1h47.

My updated PBs are :

10k 46m30 (Gino's Night Race 2012)
21k 1h38 (Witsand Vlaktes Half Marathon)

Starting to run today!! During lunch time. I've never done this before. Do you guys have any tips? I drove the route I aim to run this morning and its 4km exactly. Basically from the BMW pavillion in Cape Town to the lighthouse and back.

Firstly make sure you have good shoes that offer enough support. You do not want to end up with shin splints or runners knee. Also remember to take it easy and if you do develop some kind of RSI decrease your pace/distance/frequency.

Secondly it helps working towards a goal or adding a social element to your running. For this I highly recommend http://www.sports-tracker.com since you can easily track your workouts, share them and compare them. I've been doing that for more than 7000km now.

Lastly it is advisable to cross train. Try to cycle or swim every now and then as this develops muscles that you do not directly target while running, but they can help you increase your endurance when running.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes

Thanks, I've been playing club rugby up until the end of last season, but the body cant handle that anymore so trying something new. I've set a goal of doing the 2 Oceans half next year and as for a social element, ill try running with buddies when im a bit fitter, thanks again will let you guys know how it goes

My PB's:

5km: 22:30
10km: 49:30
15km: 1:16:40
21km: 2:00:15
42km: 4:29:39
Oceans: 6:53 (was within 15 seconds on both times I have done it...)
Comrades: 11:43

I love running :D but been super lazy the last couple of weeks, thank OP to giving me a kick to go run tonight!

I'm doing my first two oceans half this year, got a B seeding but I'm not pushing for a PB on this one, its more just for the fun of it. Have not thought about going beyond 25km so I am not sure if I will ever get a PB on a full or ultra, but maybe someday...

Anyone else doing the two oceans this year?

I believe it's super busy, but with a B seeding you should be fine.

I was going to do the full again this year, but pulled out a couple of weeks ago, cost to travel to Cape Town is a bit much for right now.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

So I cut some corners but managed 3.4km's in 24 mins. Slow I know but its a start

Thats a good start! Well done. If you someday start running with sports-tracker you will be able to see how your speed changes over the duration of your run along with altitude changes.

I used endomondo now, so thats how I know the time and distance. However, its the free version so thats all i get. Also half my lcd is not working due to by phone falling. Did an average speed of 7.42kph though.

What phone do you have? If you have iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile or Symbian you can use Sports-Tracker. It is free and way better than endomondo.

:( BB is the only platform not supported by Sports-Tracker, don't think they ever will.

I know, I checked. But this is fine for me at the moment. Only planning on upgrading next year even though im due now and a sports trascker is not worth the cash I can save

I saw someone jogging today and I was immensely conflicted inside. Part of me wanted to experience the raw physicality of pushing your body beyond normal comfort zones, like I've been use to from 1992 till 2002 ...

And another part of me ... is a lazy, fat-ass piece of **** that wants to be like I have been since 2008 till 2013.

Oh my word what an awesome thread! Seems kind'a dead but anyway...
My PBs:
5k: 21mins
10k: 44mins
Half marathon: 1hr47

Will run my first marathon next year. I also hope to do an ultra or 2. Still refining my 21k's and shedding off seconds and minutes from it.
