RunX vs Polo Classic

Forget about how comfortable they are.....
Consider the long term costs.
I've been in the car trade now for 10 years and can tell you that the Polo will eat a hole in your pocket.....

I respectfully suggest you are talking twaddle.

APoc84, if you love your wife you won't buy her a Toyota. :p

I call BS. My 90k major service cost R2.5k.

Add to that, VW parts are among the most widely available. There's no reason why it would cost a lot compared to other manufacturers.

With guys like Goldwagen around I doubt the parts will be that much more anyway.
I have to say, when I just finished school I was the proud owner of 2 x Jetta 1.8 CLI before they got re-distributed to the previously disadvantaged by some modern day Robin Hood. And I didn't find services - which I did myself - and parts exorbitantly high at all.

Hahaha. :D

I would have the RunX purely because its a C-segment car whereas the Polo is a supermini.
Its like saying would you rather have a Focus or a Fiesta for the same price, its obvious you'll take more car for the same price no?

I'm sure a bigger car should be safer as well should a moron with a double cab drive into it.

Whilst undeniably a little smaller than the Toyota in terms of interior space, the Classic's boot will dwarf that of the RunX. Also keep in mind that VWs tend to straddle segments with their models, not really fitting into one or the other perfectly. As an example the Passat is classed in the same segment as a 3-series, but offers very near 5-series space. The same holds true for the rest of the range.

Interestingly the RunX and Polo, assuming I've got the relevant models right, scored the exact same 28-point, 4-star EuroNCAP rating.

Granted they scored the same, looking at those links it appears the Toyota performed better in the frontal impact test.
Theres no denying the RunX is a bigger car maybe not its boot if thats what you're saying... Also the RunX has better ride and road holding IMO.

Well, the breakdown was actually identical for both side and frontal impacts - check the scores. The RunX did score better in pedestrian protection though, but there's a part of me that feels since you're unlikely to do end up under my car unless you do something monumentally daft, I'd want to do the maximum damage. :D

But also Enigma ncap doesnt consider the vehicle size. A fiat 500 may have a 5star rating but it'll still be worse off hitting a Hilux bakkie than lets say a Golf or something of that size.

Nooit... it'll go UNDER the Hilux, hence it's better. :p

Nah, I get what you're saying but we're not talking 100s of kilograms difference between the Classic and the [-]dishwasher[/-] RunX. If an impact is severe enough to do serious damage it won't make much difference.

So by that logic we should be driving to work in oil tankers?
Yes or the other better suggestion, legislation should take all the "oil tankers" off the road and we should all be driving to work in very tiny, lightweight, safety focused, economical, one or two seater vehicles. If both have little mass the forces generated in a crash will be less... ie more people survive.

Agreed but they are both pretty boring comfy vehicles so it really doesn't matter which he gets i guess.

Oh what a Rollercoaster ride!!

Was set on getting the RunX but the guy kept stalling with the details the bank needed from his side. After a few days of excuses I grew impatient and started feeling that something is not kosher.
Did a Transunion check on the vehicle from my side and it came up as a Code 3 Stolen/Recovery vehicle.

Thus the bank would never finance the vehicle and the reason for him stalling.

Anyhow. Decided to chuck the private sale thing down the drain and have now settled for a car from a dealership 50meters away from my office.

2006 Polo 1.6 Comfortline (Hatch)
Metallic Blue - Great condition (Interior and exterior)
70'000km on the odo
A/C, P/S, ABS, Airbags, Electric Windows and all the other gimmicks
Alloy rims
Also comes with smash and grab tinting, anti-hijacking, alarm, gearlock.

Dealership has thrown in a new set of tyres, next service for free, a valet and two vouchers for further valets.
Their finance department also made an effort to play the banks against each other to get me a decent interest rate.

Pretty happy with the deal at a decent price and glad I didn't burn my fingers in the process of trying a private deal.

Will take delivery tonight or tomorrow of the vehicle.

Well Apoc84 fate was obviously on your side, and had to step in and force you to make the correct decision! :D

You will love the Polo!

I take it that "fate" stepped in so that I don't buy a Toyota, not because it was a scaly deal? :D
I can already see enigma243 nodding his head in agreement.

But yes. I'm pretty satisfied with the deal and the car and very glad I did not get screwed over with the private deal.

It's a 2 year "younger" car with half the Kilometers on the clock.
And at least I have peace of mind by doing the deal with a dealership.
