Has anyone dealt with Kameraz in Rosebank JHB. Any Good, bad experiences.

This is becoming a bit of a disappointment. As some know, I bought my girlfriend a camera from Orms for her birthday (2009/03/27), a Nikon Coolpix S560, at around R2800.

When we went on holiday in April, it just stopped working, we took the battery out to charge - and when we put it back, it was dead.

I returned the camera to Orms on 2009/05/04 - and emailed them the receipt on 2009/05/05. I got a call from them on 2009/05/07 asking for the receipt - I then emailed this, and faxed it twice, once darker on 2009/05/07.

All has gone quiet so I emailed them again today, 2009/05/19, forwarding the mail that had the copy of the receipt (but without attachment) - Just got a call from them asking if I have sent the receipt, in reply to the mail that had the original receipt?!?!!?!? Its almost three weeks later, and nothing has been done!!!

I have spent close on R60,000 with Orms - not quite the service I was expecting.

What do you expect from a company who don't even check the spelling on their website?

If I don't hear anything by the end of this week - I'm claiming from insurance.

I'm not paying for a one year warranty, and someone else ends up having the camera for a good % of that time.

You probably need to send them a copy of your receipt. Have you?

:P

Which time you referring too? :p

Calling again tomorrow - then I'm getting in my car and driving the receipt there, and asking for written confirmation of such - that will also be the last time I purchase from them.

I don't need my girlfriend nagging me the whole time, and work nagging me, and trying to sort out a home loan, and and and... I like my life peaceful.

What happens if my 50D has issues? :(

With Canon you can deal directly with the Agents (CameraTek) altho from what I've heard, I don't know if they will give you any better service. You could wait just as long, if not longer, for a repair...

Personally I have also spent quite a lot at ORMS, but they don't seem to be good at dealing with their customers over email/phone. Try and deal consistently with only one of the sales agents. That way they will see you as a valued customer. My advice is go in to the store. Also make sure they contact the agents while you are there. If they say they will call you... don't believe them. They will have a job number for the repair, so wait while they find out from the repair center what the status of your job is.

The girlfriend loves taking photo's - she takes 100's -and to be without a camera is horrible for her - especially almost three weeks later.

I have spent alot of money at Orms and find the service getting poorer and poorer everytime I visit there! I now try and buy elsewhere...

I placed an order for a 300mm lens as they didnt have stock, they were gonna let me know as soon as it came in - well I am still waiting and its been about a year now.

Landed up buying my 300mm from Kameraz over the phone, they shipped down to cape town in 2days and gave me the old price (was just after an initial price hike) - was very impressed. No one else had stock at the time.

Also VERY good service from outdoorphotoshop.co.za - fast processing and shipping to cape town.

SACamera, just down the road from me which is very handy but since they an online shop they dont really hold much stock which is a bit of a bummer. Some decent prices on certain items.

Internationally, never had a problem with B&H and Adorama.

well they called on Wednesday to say I'd have the camera by Friday, apparently its being replaced because there are no parts in stock - I'm still waiting for the call to tell me its arrived. I'll call again on Monday - I had one requirement from the girlfriend when buying the camera, it must be pink - lets see what is returned. If its the wrong colour I'm asking for a refund, we are now at week 3.

I've been to ORMS multiple times looking for an item they've taken my number but never called me back. That said tho, I deal with one guy there and he is very helpful when I am in store. I get good prices from them and with in-house service (ie, they gave me the wrong item etc etc) there isnt a problem.

Mileage varies also depending on what you want. I have an order with SACamera thats not been fulfilled yet... and its almost two months. So much for item ships withing 7-14 days. On the other hand I do try to understand, there are logistics and other parties (re. official product agents/repair centers) involved and the blame isn't always squarely on the retailers.

Isn't it funny though that we all accept those excuse in SA, But it never seems to happen anywhere else in the world (Zim's excluded). Are we not all maybe just falling into the mindset that this is africa and we have to accept it. Until we fight for what we want, we wont ever get it.

I can remember about 25 years ago where my Dad was asked to please bring back 2 specialised lenses for somebody doing parachuting and he couldn't get anyone in SA to help him out. Has nothing changed in 25 years?

Well - no call on Friday, just called again, they now want a "repair no", something they never gave me - they then said they'd call back... W-T-F? Taking bad service to a new level.

Called again considering no call back - guy was on lunch - asked to speak to a manager, who promised to call me back - lets see?

Anyone know whether you can file a case of theft at the police station, and claim from insurance for this sort of thing? I think one month is more than enough.
