SA Arch Linux community thread

I don't use Arch and I've never really looked into it but I'd be interested to hear from @RealZackGreen and other Arch users what they like about it and how meets their needs better than other distros.

Aside from the experimenting I don't see the point in running a desktop Linux distro.
If you were concerned about your privacy or anonymity that would be one reason. Windows 10 is quite good from a security perspective but collects a lot of data and phones home so not so good in terms of privacy and anonymity.

Distro's like Arch and Debian would be better choices in that sense as general use operating systems and there's also specilaist distro's like Tails or QubesOS if you have more demanding needs for security, privacy and anonymity.

Browser, terminal, IDE that’s all I need for my daily drive. No need for the windows bloat.

I’m a Debian boy sorry :)

I did however contribute to BlackArch builds a while back and hosted a repo but it was along time ago.

It's funny I have to live in this duality.
Work on servers but never enough to remember all the commands off my head and on windows the same as you.

Nope. Installed windows multiple times with windows 10 at least 3 times, I know not a lot of installs, but all relatively pain free.

1. Desktop pc, self build in 2017.
2. Lenovo T410, ssd and ram upgrade in 2019 including upgrade/clean install to windows 10.
3. Wifes HP 250 ssd and ram upgrade, clean install of windows 10 in 2020.

Ubuntu, once installed was okayish, but getting there and figuring it out was not easy. I had Ubuntu installed on 3 computers, 1 x desktop and 2 laptops. One laptop is still in the garage. Based on my experience. It was better to installed on the laptops. But still a schlep, and not worth it for average home user like myself.
Maybe Ubuntu was your mistake? It's especially a distro that has effectively abandoned caring about desktop users. Try MX and Mint instead.

Why was I mentioned here!?
And anyways, Arch has a lot of compatibility with hardware and software too it's very customizable and easy to learn after you get the hang of it
If you want, Message me on discord at realzackgreen and we can talk about Arch Linux since I don't use the MBB forums that much

I mentioned you because I was engaging with the thread you started on this forum.

Creates a thread to discuss Arch Linux and then proceeds to nudge people to Discord to discuss Arch Linux because not a regular forum user.

Then go back to discord and don't waste your time here. Why would we want to join your shitty discord?
