Johannesburg - South Africa has imposed a year-long ban on leopard hunting in 2016 in a decision hailed on Monday by conservation activists.

“Provincial conservation authorities were informed that leopard hunts should not be authorised in 2016,” the Department of Environmental Affairs said, adding that the ban would be reviewed at the end of the year.

The department said it was acting on recommendations from South Africa's Scientific Authority, which had suggested an intervention to ensure the survival of the leopard population.

It'll be interesting to see if the pro-hunting folk are right about hunting being the best form of conservation, and whether leopard poaching will escalate during this time.

Great news! I am completely opposed to trophy hunting.

Excellent. Anti any hunting whatsoever of wild animals so very pleased with this.

Good news!
I love hunting for my own meat but never understood why someone would ever want to kill a leopard/lion/cheetah/elephant etc.

FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How is that stupid religion going to take it though?

Surely not anti hunting ANY wild animals? Sometimes culling is necessary to maintain the population and if people are prepared to pay for the experience then all the better as we can put that money back into the running of that park/game farm.

I understand not wanting to hunt threatened apex predators but lets not be ridiculous, there are plenty of Impalas and such.

This.

Just do it responsibly.

No against all and any forms of hunting of wild animals. Culling is just a cop out when people aren't prepared to pay to redistribute animals instead of killing them.

and its moral issue as far as I am concerned so there will be no convincing me ever of the "values" of hunting wild animals.

Luckily no one needs to convince you of anything, facts are facts, if you don't want to believe them that's your problem.
So just to poke more at this "Culling is just a cop out" opinion of yours where do you suggest they move animals to if I may ask?
