We have been on topic. You wanted SA to change it's votes at the UN to gain favours with the US? And not follow its own path?

Because the steel and aluminium tariffs which were levied because of the "national security" threat that SA exports pose to the US. Can you at least advise what threat these SA exports pose to the US in the first place?

How simplistic can someone be.

Its not about security but let me entertain you. It's about the constant attitude against America and the "alliances" with anyone or country opposing America yet still expecting preferential treatment and deals as well as free handouts at the same time. South Africa can make the choice to bed with whoever they want i.e. Iran, Cuba, and China et al and bash the American President as they please but then just have to then suck up the result of their actions as proven in this thread topic.

Sigh. Sad but true.

I'd rather be aligned with the west than find myself in the same company as Venezuela, North Korea, Syria and Turkmenistan. It is clear that our relationship with China has seen us drift towards unsavoury company.

Also, a quick review of a history book makes it quite clear how effective and damaging western sanctions and tariffs can be. Just ask Zimbabwe, Russia, Turkey and Venezuela how fun it is when Uncle Sam decides you are persona non grata.

The world's not fair when you are a developing country, so you have to pick which bully is going to take your lunch money and I'd rather have Trump kick my arse than Xi.

Arcelor Mittal still produces vast amounts of finished product (Our only A grade Mill left), mostly plates and cold rolled EN stock. It is however nowhere near what it used to be 30 years ago and they have shown a profit for the first time in 10 years recently, but that's because they are handing out increases across the product range nearly monthly. I am unfortunate enough to procure product from these incompetent twats nearly daily, the uselessness you will never believe, especially from management.

EDIT: I will say even though their quality is sometimes questionable as is to be expected, they have (to my knowledge) not once committed fraud in terms of grade or certification for their product. Which is a very lucrative way to make bucket loads by selling schiiiit as higher grade steel. Common practice elsewhere that is.
