Erm this is Android, not WP/iOS

Just go to Settings > Location services, and un-tick Location & Google search. No need to worry about privacy if you dont want to, only side effect is if everyone does this it will make the service useless.
 
Meh how will you be identifying me if I have my gps on? Anonymous traffic tracking by gps = ftw

Oh trust me they probably have algorithms to block out troll and false data. Millions of people using this in the US and Europe would make it a must to sort out.

Its not like we the 1st in the world to get this type of service. 3 cars moving slow, one moving fast = fast one is not normal, if fast one is always faster than the rest = motorbike, ok add data to motorbike group.
 
i sense a spate of fender-benders as the mybb forumites head home with their eyes glued to their oh-so-cool live-data maps :)
 
Interesting, I see only spots of Pretoria are covered by the live traffic info (way more covered in maps.nokia.com - which, btw, has had live traffic for quite a while and a pretty good mobile site at m.maps.nokia.com).

For example, only a small section of Atterbury.

Still pretty stoked. Wonder if the map changes in IOS6 will have live traffic as well - sincerely hope so.

They use data from car tracking companies like Netstar and Tracker, you already sign over your life when you sign up with them... so its not really going to be an issue.

Or they could just use averages :D

Just looked on my BlackBerry to see if the Google maps app supports it, it does so i'm chuffed !

Looking at how the data displays I think I can see how they do it.

They have a minimum amount of reports they have to receive before they mark the area, then they colour it according to how fast those cars are going compared to the speed limit.

So imagine every car they track will make a stripe on the map, then the areas with lots of cars will start becoming very bold. Then they just ignore all roads with less than 50 cars per min (for example) and then the picture looks a lot neater.
They then colour code the thick stripes according to speed.

iOS 6 does have it. I've checked it out.
Waze is a provider on iOS6 maps? Are you sure? Last I heard it was TomTom and OSM (With some other smaller providers).
And TomTom was providing the traffic data, melded with the users upload data
 
OK tested it out...it sucks....
you only see traffic when you zoom out...when you navigate it does not show like waze...
also you do not know what is going on...accident...etc etc...
still a way to go to be like wayz. also were about 10% out on the time to get home. same as wayz.
 
Still using Waze - the info on it is a little more detailed and better coverage of SA at present. With the split between iOS away from Google maps - will just about half the amount of users.
