SA internet cost reductions expected soon!

um, I think these cost reductions have been expected for the last 13 years.... just saying.

I think you making promises Vodacom can't keep, they already below cost!

I'll be watching VC carefully... for MTN's next move! ;)

What do you guys feel about the current pricing?

IMO, I don't feel ripped off with - for example - the Cell C 5GB x 12 for R2,999.00. Yes - reliability is a concern, but price wise I'm content to pay R250.00pm for 5GB. Lower is better of course, but if they stay at this rate I don't feel I'm getting ripped.

You don't feel ripped off because you don't know what the rest of the world is charging? And if you do know, you should feel ripped off

Agreed Dolby... R1500 for 7.2mbps + 2GB/month... for 12months from CellC is perfect for me. Start of this year CellC's network was a bit buggered up, but since mid April this seems to have come right, I get 2.5mbps - 6mbps... I can live with this!

Hope its before 21 December next year...

There is some movies I want to watch before the world ends :)

Padayachie says his department met with service providers at a recent summit where providers made a commitment to bring down costs so that more South Africans can have access to broadband says ECR Newswatch.

Correct me if I'm wrong, is this service providers that he is refering to, telkom, vodacom, mtn, cellc? or ISP?
But in the end all I read is text to try and look pro-active....

The world is ending on Saturday bru, the bible says so :D

I prefer the Mayan version, I have to many things to do before it ends :)

But seriously data costs have actually had a decent downward trend since ADSL started, adding the new cables into SA just helps allot. Here is hoping we dont hit the price bottom soon, and the prices keep on falling.

Will believe it when I see it. I am also still waiting for the benefit of that massive pipe they laid down the East coast of Africa...

wow can't wait ....just another few more years ...

The bulk of ADSL costs are line rentals. This will not affect said costs one iota. LLU or something similar must happen. Time is running out for November.

Lower ADSL local internet costs expected soon - NOT.

NO reduction expected in Telkom charges.
South Africans can expect the cost of broadband to steadily decline as the country has benefited from major undersea cables that have recently come online. The prices we pay for internet access are largely determined by the cost of international bandwidth, as most content and services sit offshore
For ADSL, >50% of the cost is attributed to Telkom.
There has been no reduction on the Telkom ADSL, POTS rental.

ISP/data costs are linked to the cost of international undersea cables,
we've seen dramatic reductions in ISP/data costs (eg MWEB)

Cellular providers can largely bypass telkom's infrastructure. and have introduced really compelling packages (Whoooosh) and are replacing Telkom for broadband.

So the article is only relevant to Cell and not Telkom.
