Yep, agree. I pay R284 for 260 GB of (unshaped, unthrottled, fullspeed 24/7 p2p) data, and then my Telkom costs are another R547! It's just ridiculous :(
 
I couldnt quite figure out if this is local only or international bandwidth costs they are talking about
 
Whist it's currently still cheaper to transport data internationally compared to locally, with the myriad of options that consumers will be given- it will be interesting to see how low the prices go.

next year... i mean next year... no definitiely the year after.
by the time we start patting ourselves on the back, the first world will have lapped us another 3 times.

I'm in no way defending anyone here trust me but I will say that you can't compare one countries costs to another, however, thats only up to a certain point. In our situation there's no doubt we are being ripped off. And VC do not want to disclose how they figure under 10c/mb isn't sustainable, which only adds to the obvious.

I do know what others pay.

But you can't always do a direct comparison with overseas with regards to products or services. I think 3 years ago we were getting ripped off - but I think R250.00 for 5GB or even 2GB+2GB at R149.00 isn't too bad
 
Now that the downward trend have started, it will be foolish for companies to try and keep their prices as high as possible in order to maximize income, and shareholder satisfaction.

If they don't then they will lose their clients. Caught between a rock and a hard place is not nice.
