After reading todays post regarding the cost of smses http://mybroadband.co.za/news/cellular/64568-the-true-cost-of-an-sms.html I decided to see what the ppl in the US spend on calls/texts and I have to say, WTH?!!

if you go over to Verizon a big US mobile opperator you find this http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/plan-information/?page=share-everything

The cost of a smart phone + 1Gb of data + UNLIMITED voice + UNLIMITED smses = $50

So if you think in terms of the exchange rate lets make it R10 = $1 (being a bit unoptimisitc here) :)
that would be R500 for a deal here in SA

So my question here is why does SA mobile opperators charge us not just an arm and a leg, do they really need to get the kidney and liver too?!!

Besides just the pricing of the packages, the consumer protection in term of these products being faulty is also way better. Thus the pricing here is crappy, the service is crappy, it take ages for these products to reach our shores. But i think we are slowly reaching the limit, the pricing model will change in the near future to a Value Based Model. Look at the rate the technology is advancing a new phone that sets a new standard/shakes things up every quarter.
