I know this was directed at Lance, but being in JHB I feel qualified to comment. There is an abundance by the by. I have never seen so many venues invest in bringing out international acts (clubs like Truth have gone all out in this respect); I have never seen so many entertainment venues investing in promoting SA comedians, singers, bands etc; Monte Casino, Emperor's Palace and a few other places have live entertainment now every day and night; the fan parks have amazing entertainment, particularly The International Football Village at Birchwood; pubs are hiring live entertainers and making an event out of it; restaurants are going all out to promote themselves during this time. And let's not forget the cinemas who are punting 3D football, movies and those in casinos are punting their live shows and selling them as combos too. We want people to have a good time.
To put this into perspective, I know a Dutch guy who works for Fifa - he does quality control for VIP Fifa delegates and players - he has travelled the world doing this and he says he has had the best time of his career so far in South Africa. He's 29, so night-life is his thing. He spends an absolute fortune when he goes out, he thinks it's cheap and he also thinks JHB is one of the finest places in the world to enjoy nightlife. Similar things have been said by the tourists I've met up with or know. Aussies, French, Spaniards, plenty of Argentinians - they've all had a blast here in JHB so far and can't get enough of it...
