There will be an economic fallout if they leave. Rand will crash further, inflation will spike and interest rates will go up.

It's about who's going to own the fallout if they leave. Which is why Mashatile is trying to shame them into leaving, and why they're waiting to be kicked out...

I'm sure the ANC will spin their way out of it somehow. They do hate being held to ransom or to account by anyone outside the ANC. They want to settle somehow near the bottom as long as they have full control. The ANC are pretty business unfriendly even hostile in some ways. It's an ideological thing with them.

But let's face it, the GNU doesn't work. It serves only the ANC. It's probably best that it ends and they carry on with their mad ideas with the EFF. They can't organically win back the votes they lost to MK so this is the best way they can win that back. They're more likely to lose more as their performance deteriorates further in terms of service delivery and lack of accountability.
 
Been busy today so not in the know, but is the ANC MEC going ahead to discuss the future of the GNU today ?

I think it would be way funnier if the DA made a new GNU with everyone else but the ANC + ASA instead. Imagine a DA+EFF+MK etc. Wouldn't get anything done, but it would be entertaining.

GNU, non-GNU, coalition... None of these have any Constitutional meaning. What has meaning is the election of the President. A vote of no confidence means that Mashatile takes over in an acting capacity for no more than 30 days, a time period in which a new Presidential election is held. If the election isn't held a new Parliamentary election has to be held.

The likely outcome is that a new presidential election is held, unless a super majority (66.7%) decides that it should go to the voters instead.

I partly agree on bolded part. DA (Leon Schrieber) radically changed Home Affairs performance within such a short time but eventually you could say it benefited ANC because many will intentionally try to diminish his contribution if he quits voluntarily.
