Because of the precedent set.

The moment some indy businessman or something is elected mayor, etc, you can bet your arse the ANC stacked civil service will try to stifle 'em every step of the way.

And then you haven't got to the rampant corruption...

When all is said and done, you're removed over bullshit and some ANC-aligned oke takes your place.
On this note, on the DA podcast (I don't listen to any kind of podcast usually, I got sick of my usual playlist on Spotify) when they hosted Solly Malatsi (Minister of DCDT), he talked about how non-ANC ministers can't really pursue their own proper policies because then the civil servants in the department (who are ANC-aligned for the most part, let's be real) get real antsy.

Even said how one civil servant challenged him on a proposed policy directive by saying, "This is not how it was done in the previous administration"

I love how he constantly tags Cilliers... Then he cries when Cilliers responds.
I still think the funniest thing is they go on about the popularity of their mayor yet avoid all by-elections to test their assertions. Perhaps because they know it's all BS and her popularity is an artificial construct perpetuated by paid influencers on X.

No doubt Trump is "punishing" Modi for supporting inhouse genocide and also supporting Palestine. Just like he is "punishing" South Africa. :cautious:
Trump just has to be endured and survived. The man is just too irrational. India negotiated and made concessions and yet there they are. Trump wants to run his tariffs, that can't be avoided. I doubt even the likes of the UK who are in deficit with the US will survive his tariffs based economy.
