True. And they make almost 90% of the world's semiconductors. Either way we're going to have to get it from another country that gets it from Taiwan, which means we pay a markup...This made me check something. Taiwan exports more than half of its chips to China. Money talks and BS walks as they say.

You just explained BBBEE tenders in a nutshellTrue. And they make almost 90% of the world's semiconductors. Either way we're going to have to get it from another country that gets it from Taiwan, which means we pay a markup...
PointIts more than just money though, not selling to China will give them even more incentive to invade.

So let's screw the economy even more for a pointless thing like forcing a name change or diplomatic mission location.Another blow to the auto industry, possibly the final nail. Taiwan might stop shipping semiconductors to SA. Tariffs just reduce demand, but you can still export. This will ensure that nothing gets built at all. ANC doesn't seem bothered...

Taiwan mulls chip restrictions amid South Africa name change row - Focus Taiwan
Taiwan is considering restricting semiconductor exports to South Africa in response to what it described as a "crude" downgrade of its diplomatic presence in the country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Tuesday.focustaiwan.tw
Elementary, my dear Spinelli. SA exports to China? $12bn. Total trade with Taiwan? 4bn ZAR.So let's screw the economy even more for a pointless thing like forcing a name change or diplomatic mission location.
How do the anc always manage to amaze me at their stupidity even after all the stupid crap they've pulled up to this point
Yeah cos semiconductors are only related to trade with Taiwan...Elementary, my dear Spinelli. SA exports to China? $12bn. Total trade with Taiwan? 4bn ZAR.
It's not about the trade value, it's about the item. Semiconductors enable manufacturing, which is where the actual export money comes from. Without it you can't build cars or anything electronic...Elementary, my dear Spinelli. SA exports to China? $12bn. Total trade with Taiwan? 4bn ZAR.
Tempting but I'll pass this time. The question was why the anc treated Taiwan that way and I showed you why. That you're nettled by my use of the word elementary is neither here nor there, my dear Watson.Yeah cos semiconductors are only related to trade with Taiwan...
There is stupid and then there is your post.
For the anc, it is the trade value. And they unfortunately do kowtow to China because of china's economic relationship which is more valuable than TaiwanIt's not about the trade value, it's about the item. No I pointed out the stupid in the post. I didn't nettle about a use of a word.Tempting but I'll pass this time. The question was why the anc treated Taiwan that way and I showed you why. That you're nettled by my use of the word elementary is neither here nor there, my dear Watson.

You do understand i am not a robot, right?China threatened the ANC on trade if they didn't screw Taiwan around? How can we believe that without a source but US trade demands are speculative?
Because of the precedent set.
Perfect storm coming soon...Another blow to the auto industry, possibly the final nail. Taiwan might stop shipping semiconductors to SA. Tariffs just reduce demand, but you can still export. This will ensure that nothing gets built at all. ANC doesn't seem bothered...

Don't worry, when the auto manufacturers decide to close up shop because they can't even get supplies here, they're just moaners.Yeah cos semiconductors are only related to trade with Taiwan...
There is stupid and then there is your post.
They are cowards...Don't worry, when the auto manufacturers decide to close up shop because they can't even get supplies here, they're just moaners.
"Objectively" speaking...
