Keep in mind that "business as usual", is a convicted felon who served prison time for armed robbery, is the leader of a significant political party, adorned by his supporters, swooned over by those he shares power with, struts the stage like a demi-god, and considers himself an authority on morality. Then, chuckle at south africa. Because that's what we deserve :laugh:

My father worked for everything he has. I know it's hard for certain demographics in South Africa to accept that certain demographics are capable of that due to the entrenched racism left over from apartheid. 🙂

Oksalayo BEE and other transformative legislation is not going anywhere and the DA, Trump, USA, Afriforum and anyone else who was delusional enough to think the status quo stemming from apartheid would remain can go jump and jump into flaming diarrhea. It's getting dismantled and if the USA wants to cut ties, so be it, we are exploring and making new friends who don't say "change this law in your country or we won't do business with you."

Their businesses can pull out, a market doesn't allow for a vacuum. Other nations are waiting in line to take the place of those who think they rule Africans and what they say goes even in their own land Africa. Africans are showing the West and white supremacy that gone are the days. 🙂

Boo boo, we're in Africa here in a sovereign nation that has a past of white people oppressing the black majority. We are fixing that and you, together with others in South Africa and your friends in the West who don't respect Africa can go jump. 🙂

I thought those Luxury Mercedes Benzes and 8 bathroom houses were protected by blue light convoys and armed guards already?

Sanctions will be problematic though for all those gains. May have to hollow out a few more couches.

Oh, I can agree. It's everywhere.

Some White people label all affluent and middle-class Black people as BEE beneficiaries (not true)
Some Black people label all White people (even working and middle) as affluent, living in mansions, and everything they have is thanks to Apartheid (also not true)

Lol, I'm the one with delusions, but you're taking victory laps for a party that would never reform or reconsider its failed policies just so they can use them as an excuse to loot.

It's not shocking news that ANC is defending BEE tooth and nail, like you do.

P.S. ANC has 40%, you can't govern alone with 40%.

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has ordered Tshwane’s mayor, Dr Nasiphi Moya, and municipal manager, Johann Mettler, to file a full plan to repair the city’s fresh produce market within 30 days — or serve one month behind bars.

Judge Mmonoa Teffo’s ruling enforces a 2022 court order for the city to provide a full suite of municipal services to the popular market on President Burgers Street.

Although neither Moya nor Mettler were part of the original case — Mettler started in September 2022 and Moya only became mayor in October 2024 — they’re now accountable in their current roles.

The application against the city, the mayor, the municipal manager and others was brought by the Institute of Market Agents of South Africa (IMASA), a non-profit which represents groups in the fresh produce sector.


It approached the court in order to enforce a previous court ruling that Tshwane must provide municipal services to its fresh produce market.

That order required the city to invest R18 million to fix up the market and develop a precinct upgrade plan. The city was also ordered to ensure that everything, from refuse removal and security to fire and smoke detection systems, was working.

Lawyers for both sides corresponded following the October 2022 ruling – but, according to the fresh produce agents, the city did not take its input into account when drawing up the plan. The city, on the other hand, claimed its upgrade plan was adequate.

Eventually, IMASA, “aggrieved” by what it called the city’s refusal to listen, approached the court.

In bringing the case, it argued that the plans submitted by the city did not actually fix the things the court had ordered to be fixed. It added that, while it provided comment on the draft plan, the city did not include any of its input into the final plan.

In court papers, IMASA said the city had not explained how the R18 million budgeted for the market had actually been used.

The city denied doing anything wrong and hit back at claims it had purposefully kept information from IMASA. It noted the court ruling did not compel it to share detailed information about how the money would be spent.

The institute, in turn, said it did not really know what had been spent.

Judge Teffo sided with the fresh produce agents, saying there was no reason for the city to keep information from it.

She also found that many of the claims made by Tshwane about improvements at the market were not backed up by evidence.

The court found that while Tshwane had indeed bought new forklifts, there were not enough qualified drivers to use them. It also found that, while the city acknowledged a generator for the market was vital, it did not provide one.

There was evidence that some work the city was claiming as part of the R18 million investment had already been completed.

In the end, Teffo concluded that, for many of the things Tshwane was meant to fix, there was proof it had not complied within 240 days as ordered by the court.

Having found the city to be in contempt of the 2022 order, Teffo gave the city 30 days to provide the market with a comprehensive plan of how the order would be implemented and a breakdown of how the R18 million was spent.

The city was also ordered to pay the agents’ costs. The prison sentences against Moya and Mettler, meanwhile, have been suspended for a year. They will fall away if the two comply with the rest of the order.


Moya, who has been the city’s mayor for just over 10 months, said that while the case predated her administration, her office was committed to revitalising the market.

“We affirm our respect for the court’s decision and our commitment to comply fully with its requirements,” she said in a statement, promising a collaborative approach that benefits all market users.

“We want to work constructively with IMASA, market traders, and other stakeholders to address the issues raised, and restore the market to its rightful place as a leading agricultural hub.”

Moya added: “To this end, we will be reaching out to IMASA to arrange a constructive engagement in the interest of moving forward together.”

The mayor described the market as one of the city’s most valuable strategic assets, adding it would be presented as a priority investment opportunity at the upcoming Tshwane Investment Summit.
