All this has achieved is giving the people you attack the ammunition to make their case stronger. The day the NPA decides that the case is prosecutable, it will be a global circus. Even some European nations will give a hard pass on their commitments. I don't think the case will go anywhere...

You claimed he handed over evidence to Gordhan, and when asked to substantiate, provided an article (3 times) quoting Gordhan as your substantiation. You even quoted Gordhan yourself. Now suddenly he's a liar when you've been called out and it doesn't suit your narrative. Please substantiate...

The survey’s purpose is not partisan. It is to provide evidence-based insights to policymakers and the public about the state of our nation – and its latest findings are stark. Mistrust of immigrants is not confined to a single community or generation, it is national, broad-based and growing.


Distrust has no demographic borders​


The details matter. The survey shows just how deep and wide the suspicion runs:


Race: Indian respondents (75.2%), black respondents (73.2%), coloured respondents (72.6%) and white respondents (72.5%) all show similar levels of distrust, which indicates that this is not one group’s prejudice, it is everybody’s problem.


Age: From 18-24-year-olds (74.1%) to over-50s (76.2%), mistrust is consistent. Young people are not more tolerant, older people are not more conservative, distrust is universal.


Gender: Women (74.3%) are slightly more distrustful than men (71.4%).


Employment: This is where the divide sharpens. Among the employed, 70% distrust immigrants. And among the unemployed, a staggering 77.3% do.

In an intense disagreement on radio, Defence and Military Veterans Deputy Minister Bantu Holomisa told a prime-time show host and his listener to “go to hell”.

Alex Mthiyane, the Durban-based Gagasi FM show host, invited Holomisa onto the show to discuss the UDM and the government of national unity (GNU).

Holomisa started the show by jokingly asking the show host, “What is your problem?”

Later, Holomisa said that because he was now aged 70, he’d speak differently because he was an elder and “an eminent person”.


Mthiyane asked about the politician’s humour, and things started getting awkward, but the show went on.

Mthiyane reminded Holomisa that he used to refer to ANC politicians as “thieves” and the DA’s as “racists”, but he was working with them in the GNU now.

Holomisa said the GNU is working “like a bond because it’s an underlined decision of voters”.

He added: “It’s no longer a language of a one-party state. That’s why now you have to work with the one you called a thief or apartheid [proponents]. We have no choice.”


Holomisa was criticised by a listener for continuing to serve at age 70, while ordinary citizens can’t get jobs when they’re 30 and ordinary workers may only work up until a certain age.


The UDM leader said, “He’s talking nonsense. President Nelson Mandela was 72 when he was released. [IFP leader Mangosuthu] Buthelezi too. Age doesn’t matter. There is this mistaken notion that when you’re younger, you’re better than others.

“Oliver Tambo was president of the ANC up until his 70s. Don’t try to use age without experience. You need a generation mix. Don’t stress too much about the issue of age.”

The caller then doubled down on the age issue, much to Holomisa’s annoyance.

The caller added, “They don’t care about us. They even speak English in Parliament. The president won’t speak isiZulu or isiXhosa in Parliament.”

Holomisa responded, “In the UDM, we’re clear: we’re grooming young people in the UDM. Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts in matters relating to leadership.”

He then ended the conversation with an abrupt message: “Good night!”

Another caller asked him about the SA National Defence Force’s performance in the Democratic Republic of the Congo against M23, where South African soldiers died, and why the government didn’t play an oversight role.

“What is apparent here was gross negligence on our side. It looks like there was carelessness,” the caller said.


Holomisa cut the caller short as he spoke. He took exception to the caller “lecturing” him about the military, saying: “Baba, please, please! We’re not going to be lectured about this. A person must ask a question.

“The problem here is that when the AU, UN or SADC request our military assistance, they go through the president and he takes it to Parliament for approval.


“Then the reconnoitre [process] is done, so that the president doesn’t mislead the country.

“In other words, the capacity of soldiers and equipment to be sent there is good. If the president doesn’t get advice like that, you should know that you have military advisers who aren’t okay in the head.”

The caller said he was satisfied, but the next listener who called in said: “I’ve noticed the general [Holomisa] is arrogant.”

Holomisa hit back, saying:

Are you arrogant? You’re talking nonsense... That’s a compliment if you’re saying I’m arrogant because you’re also arrogant.

Again, he cut the caller short by saying, “Thank you, bye-bye!”

The caller then said the station didn’t need Holomisa as he wasn’t responding to questions, even though voters had voted for him.

“You’re talking nonsense. You didn’t vote for me. Don’t tell lies. Go to hell!” Holomisa fired back.

Mthiyane said that while he understood Holomisa had to defend himself from a caller who was attacking him, he had to ask the politician to retract his “go to hell” statement.

Holomisa then told Mthiyane, “I’m not going to do that. If you’re not satisfied, go to hell too. He’s swearing at me and you’re not protecting me.”

Mthiyane then decided to end the interview.

Holomisa was not available for comment at the time of publishing.

No, seriously, I don't think it's fair to want them to be fans. Perhaps they don't like him. I'm not a fan either. They have their reasons.

Lot of people here hate and denigrate the football national team. They fly the national flag too and seldom engage in politics publicly. But these people don't get questioned because it's their choice.

I don't care if people 'like' him or not. I'm more interested in his right-wing comment actually.
Even then, when I say "care" it's about as much energy as I'd give to any coward.

I'm a former military member, so the destruction of a once powerful military, the superpower of Africa and rated as one of the most capable small militaries in the world, within 30 years, is close to my heart. Seeing it destroyed by incompetence with a suspected murderer as the head of one of the services, and its first ever defeat in the DRC. makes a laughing stock of a once proud military.

If the person you mentioned was also former military, I'm sure he feels tha same.
