SA Post Office CEO Mark Barnes resigns

SA Post Office CEO Mark Barnes has resigned citing differences on forward strategy in relation to the structure of the group, in particular the location of Postbank.

“Following discussions on Barnes’ resignation with the Board, the parties are in agreement on an amicable separation,” the Post Office said in a press statement.

You can't fight Government stupidity.... I think this guy had great intentions, but the ANC has policies that cripple the SOE's to the point where it is not possible to run them efficiently at all. It's an issue of Marxist ideology and plain dumb thinking. It's the same reason why the entire economy is hobbled.

They haven't needed a bailout in a while and there's no disciplinary action pending so this is all unchartered territory for an SOE.

Wow the post office is a lost cause anyways. Can't save it just declare it dead, half of the staff are dead behind the counter already anyways.

SAA, Post Office and other ailing SOEs to receive billions in cash-bailouts

Mboweni has also given the SA Post office R2.9-billion to service its debts after it became the government's principal agency in the distribution of social grants.

That's within the last 12 months, so let's not rewrite Mark's legacy of uselessness too quickly.

Can't blame the guy for dreaming he can fix the ANC.

Very True, to be fair it was to reduce debt and not needed to pay salaries or bribes

This guy was all talk and no action, the Post Office collapsed to its worse ever under him

Finally realised it's unfixable in its current state with the ANC meddling and union demands.

To me the post office was stable and actually functional under him. Street delivery started again and mail from overseas took 1 month instead of 3 months if ever to arrive. The lines and slow service inside was still present but at least most letters got to where they should eventually.

Lots in our area without internet, some cannot access SASSA, some closed for not paying rent

Let's see, financial year ending 2015, the post office loss was R1.5bn
2016 reduced to R1.1bn
2017- R978m
2018- R908m

So how exactly did he leave the Post Office in an even worse position than he found it?
