The South African Post Office has launched a parcel tracking app for Android and iOS.

Far too much truth in that.

Will this app prevent packages from being stolen? Will it speed up deliveries? Will it automatically convert foreign tracking numbers to local ones? Will it ensure that staff scan the packages in so that the information is up to date?

It is very easy to spend money on an app while the underlying processes are completely broken. All this app will do is further highlight the terrible service.

Hahaha. This just calls the existing tracking service? That goes down for days at a time quite regularly! Fix up the existing tracking system first - THEN make it user friendly!

I can just see this app, with its built-in retries, further DDOSing their broken servers and thereby making the existing service even less useful...

Would be useful as they returned one of my parcels to sender without ever sending me a notification that the parcel was ready for collection.

That is ridiculous. the existing one does not work most of the time. they should fix that first.
