SA Post Office Strike

Still waiting for my sept parcel to arrive... Only got scanned at end of Nov. Still waiting to get a local tracking number... Getting no replies via email.
Understandable if they're not working from the bottom. The issue though is how current post will be affected. Speedservices doesn't go through all the normal channels in any case.

Can one take the post office to the small claims court?
Yes but I'm not sure what they're liability is for uninsured parcels. Can certainly argue that the strike action doesn't fall into the normal day to day operations and is a result of mismanagement.

EMS worked last week. Got a load of DVDs from EU. Was 3 days or so late but still got here.

Hi Guys.. i dunno. my things seems to be coming in quickly now. (to CPT)

I ordered some items from DX.com (about 4weeks ago) and i have a local tracking number saying it's at CPT Capemail hub.

Maybe i'm just lucky.. or maybe people are not ordering things because of the strike so mine is going quicker.

Parcel finally moved from just being scanned - now left customs and is in transit! Unfortunately it delivers to my work PO Box...as I expected it to arrive early in Oct originally :p

Still waiting for July shipments here in Joburg.

I finally got a response. It seems my parcel is at customs waiting for the invoice. So now I have to figure out how to get hold of customs.

Call SARS to get the numbers for JHB. You normally have to fax the invoice, or go in person with the invoice, printed out. Include the foreign or/and local II number and instructions to have the item delivered to your local post office.

Aah, thank you very much. Will do it tomorrow morning and see how it goes. All my parcels before used to come through to my post office directly with the slip, first time it got stuck like this.

Either no invoice was included, or they don't believe the included invoice. Sometimes they check, other times they don't care. Prolly depends on who checks it.

Maybe do this tonight...

For Cape Town, they usually ask for the invoice showing the description and value of the goods, as well as the tracking number and instructions to fwd to your local PO. Also include your cell number.

Sometimes they may ask also for "proof of payment". This is usually an except from your credit card bill, you can black out all the other transactions and numbers.

Then follow up in a day or two, or check online to see if the item moved.

Yup, fax is the only thing that can't be faked. At least according to SARS that is.

You can print out a fake invoice, sure. I think if they catch you you could face criminal charges so it's probably not worth it.

And the whole invoice thing is stupid. Our customs are greedy from the days of apartheid.

I didn't say anyone should fake an invoice. Just questioning the mentality that a fax somehow means it's legit but then again we all know mentality isn't something government employees are renowned for. Yes things could be a lot simpler if our government just let go of their greed.

Fax is the quickest way. The other way is email. And there is also the slow and sure way of walking there and handing in the print out.

As said they may also demand proof of payment which is a credit card slip - probably internet banking statement will work too. Or a print out from the bank.

They more or less know what everything costs. So if you order 20 Blurays and claim they're $1 each they probably won't believe you, anyway. I guess you're really gonna have to show them some sort of proof of payment there reflecting $20 plus shipping.

They're silly to bother with ordinary people this way. But that's our beloved SARS. Where you get taxed on gifts over R400.

Thank you. I've send off the fax. I just hope my parcel is still there :o

My wife just received her membership card from the South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession (SACPVP).
It was mailed in April. :wtf:
At the same time she received a second letter from them for the annual renewal of her membership - it was mailed last week.
