SA Post Office Strike

Its highly unlikely the post office will come out of this.

This is a zero sum game.
Now they strike for permanent positions, next year it will be salary increases.

In its current model the post office is dead. Close it down, contract it out to a private entity or entities.
Make tampering with the mail a criminal offence.

According to the DA it's the fault of the management. Has to do with broken promises and use of pension funds to pay debt.

The post office is not dead in its current model. SA is not the only country in the world. Elsewhere postal services exist. We're not yet the worst place on earth. So no. You may as well also say the ESKOM is dead, the mining industry is dead, state health care is dead and so on.

Making tampering with the post is already a criminal offense. What makes you so sure doing it a second time would have any effect?

I need documents from Belgium for my December holiday. Using couriers now at a cost of almost R600.

I have no idea how this strike is not receiving critical attention.
Ok so the government is pretty useless, but to have a completely non functioning postal service, just boggles the mind how this is not a major priority.

Update on industrial action at some Gauteng facilities of SA Post Office
Postal services in South Africa are still affected by industrial action by mail workers in the Gauteng province as well as in Bloemfontein and Polokwane. Talks to solve the strike are currently at a particularly sensitive stage and the Post Office is not at liberty to disclose details at this stage.
No employees at Post Office outlets are on strike, but intimidation and violence has led to the temporary closure of a number of post offices in the Johannesburg area, while six post offices in the area had to be closed as a result of vandalism. According to Lungile Lose, spokesperson for the SA Post Office, the company took this decision in the interest of customers and employee safety.

I have 2 packages stuck at JHB International Hub. Have been for weeks now.

In my mind I'm hopeful that everything is being well looked after and secure (like this)

But living in South-Africa, I think in reality whats happened to my packages may be more like this:

You see what happened at the Benoni post office? Option 2 is your best bet here.

Yeah, the silence from the relevant minister is deafening.
