According to that your package is being detained by customs from the looks of it. If it was processed by customs it would say Arrival in customs or something.

1 In transit 2014/09/13 21:44 JHB INT MAIL CENTRE (HUB)
2 From Customs 2014/09/08 07:51 JHB INT MAIL CENTRE (HUB)
3 To Customs 2014/09/08 07:51 JHB INT MAIL CENTRE (HUB)
4 Incomming International 2014/08/26 09:02 JHB INT MAIL CENTRE (HUB)

So they obviously don't like something in your package.

That means its being detained by customs. I've ordered hundreds of packages abroad, and the packages of mine that have been detained have the exact same description. They either want an invoice or need to determine the value of it to charge import duties.

I can see you really want to argue here, but nope, nothing to do with customs.
I was at JIMc, received my II number, invoice was ready on the PC, dude went to the back to get parcel and vanished. After two hours spoke to another guy who went to check on the first guy and both vanished. at a round 11:30 some dude from management came down and said they have an impromptu meeting with staff so everything on hold, at 12:30 just left as all front staff just poof vanished and turns out that was the day the second illegal strike started.

Not arguing speaking from past experiences. Hope for your sake you get it. :)

Doesnt work nationally, anything routed via jhb wont arrive, still waiting for a parcel shipped last month via speedservices, stuck somewhere in route, so no, dont use speedservices

I stand corrected. My package came from Durban and didn't go via JHB. Stay away from Speed services.

JHB is the strike ground zero. If we could just bypass that disease we could get sorted out much faster.

Seems mine is going to be stuck in the East London hub....

What the number for Customs? Is it still 0860111502? My call is apparently "very important to them" for many minutes during the day...never get to speak to anybody. Are there alternative ways to get the local tracking number for an international package?

Try this no. for Customs 011 961 6000.. they probably already closed for the day so try tomorrow.

Anyone know ?

If the parcel is not in the system with your foreign number, then it's unlikely it has an II number. I've had SAPO not track RR items from overseas sometimes before. No II number either. And that also has implications.

But can you actually search for the foreign number ?

I'm pretty sure that this parcel has been stolen, however. It is an RF (Singapore).

Once the parcel is on the local (sapo/ems) system you can search using the Foreign tracking number and it will give you the local II tracking number.

Yes. You can chuck in the foreign number into http://emssouthafrica.co.za/Tracking/domestic.html
and it will trace it for you.
http://sms.postoffice.co.za/TrackingParcels/Parcel.aspx?id=
will also give you the II number, but for some reason recently it has not been spitting out the II number.
The ems tracker is more detailed though but does not spit out II no's.

If no II number then no customs check. But it doesn't mean the parcel won't be delivered.
