wonder if it wasn't stolen... and then maybe this guy just wanted some money (maybe he couldn't use the items you bought..) ?

I'm guessing if you sent it via courier (maybe DHL or FEDEX) That should be about 5-7 to get here and another day or two to clear their customs. (As long as it doesn't touch EMS or a Post Office sortation system.. it should be quick)
That is hectic... Tshwane is a good 1000km from your location.
The parcel was propably coming from Overseas, going to JIMC/JHB. Then it got forwarded to Tshwane and got stuck there with the whole strike in action process. ?
or possibly they redirected parcels to other area's closeby and got bogged down.
with jimc or with Jimc Customs ?
Long shot, but is there somewhere one can find out the status of standard untracked airmail and/or collect it? I get paid via US cheque, but it's just posted via normal airmail from the US, not track & trace. Haven't received any cheques for the last three months now, but I'm hesitant to ask my employers to resend, as the reissued cheques could land up in the same void. Is there anywhere I can contact for a bit of detail/status on standard airmail?
No, unfortunately not. Because standard mail through national postal systems (and international transfer points) are not tracked.
If you want tracked mail, then you have to pay for it.
My guess is that your cheques are lying with all the other undelivered mail in one of the overloaded and bogged down sorting points in South Africa.
If this strike doesn't end soon, I can see a lof of that stuff just being discarded.
It might take a while though. I have that status on my parcel from the 6th of November and it's not at my post office yet. Checked yesterday.Yip, something is happening at Jimc. My parcel was held by customs at first on the 18th...
Now this morning it's showing :
