SA Post Office Strike

This is a mess.
Surely when you know that there was such a huge back log and long strike that you actually create alternative methods for people to see if they can track post.

Will it actually help to try to contact customs to find out if you parcel is there?

So like the way they built more power stations?

They have several fscks. But they arent giving out a single one at the post office

Definitely not using the post office then. I just need to send a book under 1kg from Joburg to East London, hopefully for under R100. Anyone know what options I can use?

Hmm, 1kg ? Don't think a carrier pigeon can do that.

That is about the only mail service in the new SA for under R100.

Found a slip for a foreign parcel in my postbox. Dizzy with joy, I even took time off from work to go to the PO. Only in the queue did I notice that the parcel is for my neighbour and the useless postie had put it in my box
So I am still waiting for my USPS parcel......
My other local parcel from Durbs ended up at Woodhill PO instead of Brooklyn Sq....wat 'n gemors

I had that the other day and the post office was not interested in assisting me by sending it to the correct place! I was very annoyed!

Speed Services seem to work as expected. Had a parcel sent from Strand to Durban, received it the next day.

I emailed the customer services two days ago. They indicated that they would get back to me within 48 hours. I am pleased to report, I have received a response:

Good day

Item has not been scanned in South Africa. It is possible that the item is in customs. Only once it is cleared form customs tracking will be available.
Unfortunately there is still a severe backlog after the strike we had and all mail has not been processed yet. Measures were put in place to keep items as safe as possible during the strike. Currently extra shifts have been introduced to deal as quickly as possible with the backlog.

I was able to follow my parcel from China through SAPO's international tracking, it told me when it got scanned at JIMC, went through customs, shipped to bloem and when it arrived at the post office, just by using the international tracking number.

Edit: Using this website: http://globaltracktrace.ptc.post/gtt.web/

Picked up a parcel this morning that was sent beginning of September 2014 from China. Quite surprised as I've written it off. Props to SAPO for delivering, even though it took 4 months.

I wish I could chat to someone at the post office that knew what the flip is going on. So I managed to get through to jimc a week ago and they were happy with the docs an will send my parcel on. I see no movement on my parcel and send emails to everyone again to try and find out whats happening, only to get an email back saying my parcel is waiting for the documents and that I have to send it through, which I have been sending through multiple times since the 17th of December. FFS.

Quick question if anybody can answer.
A parcel containing electronics left Singapore on the 19th of December.

With the tracking number I received from them it only states that the parcel left Singapore to South Africa.

The tracking Number is RA8555...SG
Can I use this number in the Track and trace from SAPO to track the movement?
Or will SAPO send me a new number to use?

How do you know its at customs?

Regards
No, only local numbers work on SAPO's track & trace. You have to call to get a local tracking number.
