SA Post Office Strike

Received an eBay order yesterday, exactly 8 months after it was posted...
Woo hoo. Maybe there is hope for my R1300 of untracked items from since November 2016. All tracked have been received.

There is a dvd tv series I bought in Feb that never arrived and there is no rip with my best google-fu skills. Only seller does not offer tracking so I have been agonising against it.

Did you make a claim for the missing item?

No it was a cheap $5 order with free postage so I knew it could take a while or get lost. My other orders from the same period all arrived after roughly 2 months, just this one that took so long...

The good news is that the tracking is up again. Bought 9/9. In SA 21/09. JIMC 21/10. Durmail 28/11. Home by Xmas.

One of the 3 packages bought from the store on the same day received 3 weeks ago.

Went to pick up two items, was charged R24 each. Seems it's for everything now that came in after a certain date.

Went to the po and the lady said the package have been at the office for 5 days. They were going to send it back to the hub,she was shocked that i received no slip or sms to come and collect.Sapo tracking is offline 80% of the time an some scans dont get captured

I think that this is quite normal.

Due to extreme incompetence many parcels just get binned, stolen, or sent back to their origins.

Weird as they should keep it for at least a month.

From another thread
I asked at the post office today about the lack of notification slips and the guy said that items that are undelivered stays there for now, even stuff from last Feb. Sometime they plan on following up, if there is phone number on the package they will sms a notification for collection. Because of the R24/package they are collecting the PO will make a big effort to deliver those packages as it is income for them.

Not so sure about this, they just don't seem to care.

Not that they don't care but rather that they can't manage it. If more workers is all that's required I would say sure charge it but unfortunately I think only a overhaul of the system will fix the issues including some automation. But we all know what will happen with that even if it's only to make things more efficient and not replace anybody.

Helps to always be friendly with the ladies behind the counter. They actually sent me a SMS yesterday to say I had a parcel. I ordered it from eBay in Oct last year and apparently its been lying in a pile for a while...

Got parcels waiting since May. Now it's going to take even longer with the strike.
