SA Teachers Set Absentee Record

Its taken almost five years because it requires a long change management process. I suspect it will be a longer struggle with government-unions relationship.

Eina. By that time we can have a whole troop of new teachers if they apply their minds.

Really? My wife started teaching last year. At a decent school. And I can tell you, that between the study debt, renting a place and actually getting there.. I shudder to think how she would've made it if we weren't getting dual income.

My wife is a teacher too. 10 Years. Yes their salaries are craptastic. But blaming transport is a common problem in SA these days... with people earning a salary.

No need to buy R100 k car.

A fish rots from the head. Start by firing the minister and work your way down. When you start firing managers at the schools things will quickly change.

Shouldn't the principle be kept accountable for the teachers under him?
Walking around the school at random times should not take up so much time.
We can blame the teachers, but it sounds more like there are problems higher up in the hierarchy.

To give an example.. my wife told me. The one teacher didn't pitch up for work. Principle phones him.. "he is drunk, not coming to work" at 11am in the morning. Now the principal is stuck in a hard place.. getting rid of a different coloured person, where the school body is same colour as teacher...

Another one, principal gets a sms, saying teacher resigns day before school starts. No warning etc.

That is the attitude of some teachers
