SA thief caught using Apple tech

Great story. And I think as tracking devices become cheaper and more common, we're going to see a lot more of this kind of thing happening.

Dont believe this! Apple maps would never find the criminal!

This has happened before (not Apple specific) and the victims had a struggle to get SAPS to react.

I have already heard a few stories like this. People just need to be a bit more proactive and cops need to be a bit more clued up on the technology.

The nice thing is that it might scare a lot of people off from focusing on these devices, might make them a bit scared of technology.

Also had to use the tracking technology recently, when a client of mine's iPad got stolen from his car in Midstream Estates.

It was switched off immediately afterwards, but a month later it popped up on the grid right next to (or inside) the Kenyan High Commission in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. :wtf:

I immediately locked it down, so they are sitting with an expensive paperweight now. ;)

Wow!, thats epic, technology is sure changing our lives, stupid burglar devices like those do not take, i'm glad he was caught, ;)

What one really needs is a webcam pic of the perp.

The monitoring software I use (PC Monitor) can remotely take a screen and webcam snapshot for Windows PCs, Macs and Linux, but not yet for devices (Android, IOS or WP). Hopefully it's coming soon.

Samsung have had the same technology available on all their high end phones since the Galaxy S2 (remote tracker), but let's pretend that Apple where the first to come up with this technology.

Now this is interesting. It would have been cool to see how it changed hand to arrive in Tanzania.
