Fark... Im gonna withdraw all my money tonight.

At least I had a good run while it lasted. Paid for a lot of stuff

Good luck to 'em regulating offshore operations - all they'll do is ruin the local operations.

That said I am in no way a fan of gambling.

Yeah regulate it!
Then rpm will be forced to pay more attention to myBB :D :D :D

“We will work together with the banks and Reserve Bank to monitor the accounts and players will not be permitted to have more than R20000 in their accounts at any point,” says Moja.

What if you win R100 000?

Frankly gambling serves no purpose.. other than for entertainment..which should not require money.

Only way to control this industry is to cut right to the bull**** and pursue any bank that facilitates money transfer to/from those gambling sites. With that tap dried out.. online casinos can close the shop and go spending dirty money they acquired over years..

The less things are regulated (by state) the less things are bound to be a fakap (by state).

If you stop people from gambling online, why not stop them from gambling at Grand West, Monte Casino, Sun City, etc as well...

Leave people to blow their cash ffs! I for one love playing poker on SilverSands. It's in the comfort of my own home, I trust that it's damn near impossible to cheat...apart from the odd poker bot or so...

I haven't been following this story the whole time, but what does the government stand to gain by limiting the amount of cash an individual earns from online gambling? If I win the euro millions (which is advertised on every blumin website these days), can I also not bring the money back?

Why doesn't government outsource regulating?
Ok nevermind that's a stupid question.

I thought online gambling was prohibited already?

The board is taking a hard line against illegal online gaming. Moja cities the example of a South African who won R8m on an offshore online gaming site but was prevented by the South African authorities from bringing the funds into the country

That is a loss of revenue for the government IMO, the guy / gal isn't going to shove the cash under a matress in his / her bedroom and never spend it.

A bit OT here but:
Definition of democracy: Being allowed to choose someone who will tell you what you may and may not do for the next 5 years.

How would this apply to non-South African gambling sites?

After all, we're a global community now and the Internet knows no borders.

That I don't understand. Why block someone from bringing funds in. R8 mill is almost a million dollars. For that much I would leave this country. Bringing it here should be welcomed.... not blocked.

The more appropriate question is why did the egit try to bring the money into the country in the first place. Just open a foreign account in a place like the Isle of Man and deposit it there.
