Seeing that she was not even aware of her pending execution, I doubt if she had a trial considered to be fair by "western" standards. <pure speculation>
 
I honestly don't see Zuma appealing. And even if he did, it would fall on deaf ears.
China's not going to let some piddly little nation from the tip of Africa have any influence over its judicial system and least of all when it comes to drug trafficking.

If there was intervention, it'd set a "bad precedent" and have countless criminals reaching out for help.
The Chinese don't care for this SA woman - cos they put their own people to death for the same reason.
So I'd be really suprised to see any positive response for this woman from Chinese authorities.

Saw the following yesterday on Daily Mail; some Chinese nationals that were executed a few years ago - the pics apparently only recently came to light.

It's possible she didn't know about the death penalty. This is a minor crime in most countries. These mules are usually ignorant idiots who have probably never read a newspaper beyond gossip all their lives

Good point. I'd prefer not to think of this in 'western' or 'non-western' standards.

I'd like to continue living in a dreamy land where human rights are (or should be) universal.
 
China have a policy of not interfering in other country's internal affairs. And yes the Dalai Lama is China's internal affair before someone brings that up.

If anyone should be shot in the head, it's the mother****ers who willingly put her in this position in the first place.

That really illustrates the absolute pointlessness of this type of punishment, there will always be some poor idiot looking for a quick buck and a plethora of callous *******s, more than willing to place a life on the line for profit.

They will simply find more victims.

The mules are apparently used as a diversion to get through a much larger shipment. The dealers tip the authorities off about the mule and then slip in their real courier while the authorities celebrate a drug bust.
 
I can't find much on this via Google except that she arrived on a flight from Dubai - does anyone know more of the story ?

Knowingly carrying 3 Kg of crystal meth into a country where the death penalty is there for anything above 50 grams is either suicidal or monumentally naive.

Or she wasn't aware of what was in her luggage - but there are so few details it's impossible to get a clearer picture.

Do you think this is the case in China? They have enough personal to patrol both situations.
 
I'm all for the death penalty when it rids society of undesireables. The trick is of course to ensure that those who are nabbed are guilty and that the kingpins do not escape justice.

It also takes the strain off of prisons-and the taxpayer.

I'd only sympathize with her if she'd been threatened into doing this.

On a serious note, think she'll be featured on Banged up Abroad?
 
I have no sympathy for drug dealers, mules or users alike.

Whether they know what they are heading for or not, I am with China on this.

Hope they fulfill their policies and give the woman the lethal injection ASAP, which is about 3 hours from now.
