SABC retrenches over 600 workers

Managers don't just manage people.
They manage departments, work flow, infrastructure, finances, other managers, seniors and juniors.

A Corporation isn't made from 10 people with 1 manager. It's made from multiple roles and responsibilities.

Whether it's the SABC or not.
SABC just need one dictator to manage everything perfectly.

I understood that the SABC is launching three new TV stations in the next three months, a sports channel and two entertainment channels. Who is going to run these if they are retrenching people?

Have I go this straight? The SABC has 2550 people managing 429 people?

How do you have almost 4 times the number of supervisors than staff?
Who exactly are these supervisors, supervising

In a lot of organisations being in a supervisory or management role does not mean that you are a manager, it just denotes your role band (and therefore minimum and maximum salary, benefits etc). In most financial institutions all software developers are in management roles but they're not managers.

I fully expect that DJs, presenters etc are all part of the management / supervisory count. The 429 people mentioned might be the drivers / cleaners / personal assistants etc.

Takes many to fill the patronage network and oversee vast amounts of corruption as well as fruitless and irregular expenditure.

You must be and sabc manager?

You must be blind.

You described a very old managerial structure. Very few modern tech companies function that way and the hierarchy is very flat. There was a post on here the other day where someone questioned if a CTO is needed just to give you an idea of how flat things are going.

And you think SABC was run in a modern way or like a tech company?

Toilet paper is white.
The sky is blue.
Water is transparent.

Companies differ. My description was a general overview.

Stop arguing for nothing.
Seriously. There's no need.

Well if you restructure you might try and modernise some processes to try and drive efficiencies.
