the NHI has been put on hold indefinitely thankfully.

well thats a relief... but I wonder how long for.....

Perhaps the new Planning commission should have a look into all these increase proposals and new taxes from all these different sectors and make a decision on whats sustainable and beneficial to us, the people of this country, to whome govt is in position to serve... (not the other way around)

Hell No SABC Tax

I don't know why they want more money when they can't even
keep track of the money they have at the moment. The only reason
I pay my TV license is because I needed it to get my 40" LCD.
If the SABC can keep up with the shows and the quality of service that
SA receives from dstv then it's fine I will pay the tax, but we all know that
is not going to happen.

You don't have to fly or take a train to fund the top salary earners in Transnet with your tax, do you think the ANC is concerned whether you watch tv?

Considering the SABC is a free propaganda machine for the ANC, you can bet they will keep it afloat at any cost to us, and make sure the board is paid enough to keep kissing ass!

No way in hell will any ANC service survive, unless it's propped up with tax payers money, and has a captive market.

Telkom Sux
Eskom Sux
SABC Sux
Transnet Sux

Competition will always be a foreign concept.

LOL!

Guys, it's not added tax, it's an allocation of the tax you are CURRENTLY paying.

Is this a separate tax? Because that wouldn't make any sense at all. It makes sense to abolish TV licences and replace that income from Treasury because of the huge amount of wasteful admin and red tape it eliminates. The income should come from existing taxes as part of the existing budget. A separate tax would defeat the purpose.

It is a fact that 1% of current income tax revenue would provide more than double what the SABC can raise from TV licenses. And the cost of collection via SARS is far more efficient. What the DoC is proposing is that for every R1 you pay in income tax, 1c will go to into the broadcasting fund. The finance minister will have to offset that extra 1c in his budget.

At present taxpayers are constantly paying up to bail SABC out anyway. By eliminating the inefficient license collection process, taxpayers will pay less for SABC in the long run.

Of course, whether we should be paying for the SABC at all, is another argument entirely.
There's no place for this kind of logical discussion in this thread.

Just for amusement

Oh the horror

Yes, I know they're actually managing their TV station well, and don't have untrained monkeys in management, but they still have a license fee. And you know what, there are people who use TVs without a proper license. Shocking. Who knew the ANC was running the UK.

It is when you're continually forced to support the non-productive.
If you're envious I'm sure they'll be more than happy to swap places. No, don't bother, they'll refuse because what they really want is the little they have.

Or line the pockets of those who control the tax base.
I'm so glad this never happens anywhere else.

The scary part of this thing is that if these water-heads decide to go ahead with this, we can't do anything!!! No matter how much the public moans, bitches etc. we are foooked!!!

I don't see a problem with the BBC receiving license revenue. AFAIK they don't receive advertising revenue.

I don't understand why the SABC should receive TV licenses AND receive advertising revenue. After all the whole point of a TV license in the first place was so that the SABC wouldn't have adverts. How fast that was abandoned.

Crazy, killing the golden goose that is already dying. death n taxes.....
