It is possible but really not that useful unless there is really some specific use you have.

I have it set up in Plex for testing, guide data is done through "unofficial" means using a program called WebGrab+Plus. Quality of the available data is poor at best and at worst will just plain break if the source you're using changes their api.

I managed to do timed recordings outside EPG, so am able to record SABC and ETV and over 2 hours on timed scheduled recordings I think

What TV tuner are you using?
 
I used to be able to get the EPG for etv on my tv with digital tuner, but since last week it's gone.

Anyone know why or how to fix?

The sabc and etv epg data is missing since the loadshitting started. Probably the techie's PC crashed and all the IT people are still "working" from home...
 
Just bought an AMO unit, but I can't get it to pick up any signal at all. Using an external antenna. Reception on the analogue TV is marginal for the SABC channels but quite good for eTV. So there is some signal coming in.

However, when doing the AMO terrestrial channel search I get absolutely nothing. The little signal and quality bars on the bottom RHS of the screen both show zero%. The channel by channel search ends up with an 'X' on each channel. So clearly not finding even a hint of a signal.

Any thoughts? Could this be a dud unit, or an antenna problem? I'm in Paulshof, north of the high point of hill. Not sure if this is a known poor reception area. But in any case, I'd have thought I'd get something, given the eTV signal is pretty OK on analogue.

Appreciate any thoughts on this.

I am in the east of Pretoria. I found that I needed to turn the antenna about 15 degrees to receive a dtv signal. We have two AMO boxes and they both work fine.

Have you tried repositioning your antenna?
 
Not tried to move the antenna yet. Any idea on where it should be aimed or how I can find out where the closest transmitters are? I googled, but nothing much came up. Its a pretty large Yagi style antenna.

I presume I just move it a bit and then rerun the channel scan until I (hopefully) see a signal?

This website from Sentech allows you to pinpoint the direction from your own property. I would suggest that you use a PC - the site is definitely not mobile-friendly.

OK, moving the antenna helped. I now get 9 TV and 19 radio channels picked up on frequency 738000. But no eTV. Should that be on the same frequency, or a different one? The scanning only detected activity on 73800, so what might I be missing to get eTV? Thanks

Try rescan , etv here running on a different frequency

That's probably the sabc bouquet. Etv is on a different frequency and has 4 channels.

Try moving the antenna by a few degrees at a time and re-scanning. Also, check signal strength on the AMO box each time, to help align to the tower.
