SABC through DVB-T2 on HD TV?

Strangely, it just populated 4 digital Etv channels after doing some auto tuning. I guess it's better than nothing.
Another tip: go to settings, support, self diagnosis and hit signal information then move the aerial around until the strength and quality go up. The two channels uses different frequencies so one might pick up perfectly while the other might not pick up at all. Will have to find a middle ground...

Does anyone know where one can buy a USB DVB-T2 adapter locally? Do I need a license to get one?

Not sure if it is the same as in the western cape but SABC channels should pick up on channel 38 and ETV + MC on channel 50. Also I noted that if I have my digital indoor aerial vertical it does not pick up anything. Horizontal works and had to direct to the broadcast tower before it worked (not my closest repeater tower but the nearest primary tower). Hope you come right. Should pick up around 47 channels...
Would it help getting a digital antenna? Perhaps the bunny ears don't have enough scanning strength or something? But ja there's a small spot on my TV cabinet that if I put the bunny ears at the 4 etv channels populate.

I got an Ellies indoor antenna which only worked once for me but think I then blew it by adding power to it. I then ordered the one in the image from takealot (no longer available). It did not come with a power supply though and Samsung tv's don't have power on the aerial input so got one at build it (12v) and took a chance on the funke although it says power supply needs to be 5v. It worked and is still working after a month. Working great for me but every installation will be unique and over amplification is also a thing. Best is to use an outdoor antenna (normal analogue one) but judging by your analogue reception im guessing you don't have an outdoor antenna. Just get a proper indoor dvb-t2 antenna with the option to boost amplification with a power supply and you should be fine.Screenshot_20190113-221144_takealot.jpeg

PTA East we are stuck with the Menlyn water tower gap filler, or Magaliesburg at the Haterbeestpoort dam, or Middleburg in the east or another gap filler in PTA north. All are far way and definitely need external antennas, not bunny ears, As far as I remember ( not at all sure), the polarisation for UHF is HOR.

Can confirm it is horizontal. Luckilly the DSC250 can do both vertical and horizontal

I seem to lose the SABC multiplex during the day (610MHz). After about 11:00PM it works like a champ. The ETV/MC multiplex (706MHz) has no issues o_O
When I stayed in Gordon's Bay and used the Grabouw tower I had the same problem. I informed Sentech but according to them they were waiting for spares and the SABC MUX was on low power. Problem also moved with me to Somerset West. It has been more than a year ago when I spoke to them last. Contacted them again about it a month or two ago and they said there was no problem at the Grabouw site. Could not pick up SABC channels at all. When I turned my indoor antenna to Constantia side I did not encounter this problem anymore and it works great all the time. Definetely still a problem with the SABC MUX at Grabouw. Try to get it amplified and rather use the Constantia tower

I get the same as well as the 19 SABC radio channels but no eBella. Discontinued channel I believe? I stay in Somerset West but am picking up from Constantia. How is your program information on the channels? I hardly get any program information on the SABC channels but ETV seems to be fine most of the time

On SABC my EPG is mostly empty. Info bar shows No Info.
ETV is about 50/50.
GOtv seems 100%

Unfortunately I don't have LOS to Constantia or Tygerberg. I'm in a bit of a dip towards the Sir Lowries side of town.

Any use in getting an amplified indoor dvb-t2 compliant antenna? Will it perform better than my bunny ears at receiving the signal from any of these gap fillers?

I have never had much success with indoor antennas. But that is a few years ago.
Generally, unless there is a very good reason such as you are in leased accommodation and can't put up an external antenna, rather go for a proper external antenna.

Hi,

I have been watching SABC and etv channels on digital TV channels 38 and 50 from Constantiaberg for about a year now. Suddenly, since earlier this week, the SABC channels on 38 are gone. The eTV channels are still there on 50.

Anyone know whats up?

Regards

Max

If these are the analogue channels then it is about maintenance issues. The analogue equipment is not supported by preventative maintenance anymore. If that is the case, then the failure is temporary.

Please explain to me what a "digital antenna" is.

There is no such thing. Radio waves are radio waves. reception of radio signals remains a completely analogue process. This is just marketing BS, trying to convince people they need a new antenna.

A proper UHF antenna is all you need. Fancy looking indoor antennas with no active amplification built in are just glorified bunny ears.

I also pick up from Constantia and have no problems with any channels. Maybe your aerial alignment went out somehow?

One can be fooled by the radius these so-called 'digital antennas' can scan. Some of them say they can scan for channels that are 120 miles away. Presumably, if they were amplified, there is a better chance of getting signal than bunny ears, no? Amazon has digital antennas that ship to SA:

Trying to source one of these but coming up with nothing. Did the company discontinue them?
Type this in google: funke dsc250. Should get some results. I was lucky to still get it from takealot. If I remember correctly I saw it on SpaceTV's site as well. Remember to get the usb power inserter / a power supply - can confirm 12v works fine.

*edit See you can get it from Amazon UK for around R1300.00 delivery included. I got it for R299 though when it was available at takealot.
