SABC through DVB-T2 on HD TV?

TV is a Hisense 43A6100UW.

The channel list can be set to filter between digital and analogue signals. Digital looks great and the PVR feature works with it. The analogue channels look awful.

The HD channels it picks up are SABC1-3, SABC sports and E-TV HD. There are some non-HD channels as well that merely look okay.

I have the same model of TV. I tried using an Ellies bunny aerial and did a channel scan. Only picked up the analouge channels which are very poor quality.

Should I restrict the search to DTV only in the menu?

What area of the country are you in?
No, nothing to do with choosing to search for both.
All to do with poor signal in your area and lack of LOS to the transmitter serving your area.
Bunny ears and most internal antennas are a waste of time.

In Pretoria East (Lynnwood)

Your choice would be the Menlo Park gap filler or the Magaliesberg Transmitter. The former will need LOS, the second is far away and difficult to get LOS, and probably will require an external antenna.

Ja the analogue channels are a waste of time with a bunny aerial.
Try moving the aerial around if you don't get any channels or only some channels with a scan.

Some changes this morning.

SABC Encore has been added as a new channel

Presume 0440 and up are scrambled??

Also noticed the new SABC Channel this morning.

Anyone have hassles with all the eTV channels from about 0800 to 1200 this morning? Signal strength and Quality was good but displayed picture and sound was very iffy. Maybe they have been working on the local transmitters?

Nope.. likely that you have bad signal. I'd say figure out where the broadcast antennae is and then ensure that your arial has unobstructed LOS. If it still doesn't help it's likely that you are very far and the signal degrades too much i.e. will need a booster +/- external arial (u can try with indoor first).

NOTE: There is a difference between old boosters and new ones.. check the freq ranges?

With a basic bunny arial i am able to watch most channels (HD ones too) though i haven't done this in a long time. Some channels are encrypted and require a provider decoder i.e. monochoice decoder etc

No signal on the SABC Multiplex this morning, decoder showing a solid 0%.

There's a lot of work to do if they want to start shutting down analogue transmissions next year.

I get the same as well as the 19 SABC radio channels but no eBella. Discontinued channel I believe? I stay in Somerset West but am picking up from Constantia. How is your program information on the channels? I hardly get any program information on the SABC channels but ETV seems to be fine most of the time

The SABC is rather erratic when it comes to maintaining their EPG. Electronic Program Guide.

So I've got a Samsung 4K which I believe has a DVB-t2 tuner in it. Auto-tuning is disabled and seemingly greyed out on the TV. And manual scanning doesn't seem to work at all. 0% signal. Is it waiting for an aerial to be attached in the analogue port? Will go pick up an aerial from Spar if needs be. Also in the Pretoria East area.

Just for laughs, is there any use in getting something like this delivered?

Doubt it. I've got a Spar/Ellies 'Bunny Ear' plugged in at the back of my Samsung 4K - 40 km from the transmitter. Two old-fashioned brick walls and Durban Bush in between and it is fine. As Geoff D. says, if there is a signal available, it will tune.

Just went and grabbed a bunny ear from Spar. Auto tuning on Samsung 4K not finding anything in Pretoria East (Menlyn side). And only finds one hazy SABC 3 analogue channel. Any ideas on what to try next?

Strangely, it just populated 4 digital Etv channels after doing some auto tuning. I guess it's better than nothing.

Go to settings, broadcasting, auto tuning and press start. It should then give you option for aerial which you leave on terrestrial. Channel type will give you three options namely analogue, digital or both. Choose digital and hit scan. If there is no digital option then the dvb-t2 tuner was probably removed...

Not sure if it is the same as in the western cape but SABC channels should pick up on channel 38 and ETV + MC on channel 50. Also I noted that if I have my digital indoor aerial vertical it does not pick up anything. Horizontal works and had to direct to the broadcast tower before it worked (not my closest repeater tower but the nearest primary tower). Hope you come right. Should pick up around 47 channels...
