SABC through DVB-T2 on HD TV?

There you are, the 3 multiplexes thta are active at the moment. The first is encrypted and requires a STB to decode. The next two are open an unencrypted because the e-tv and the SABC mux are FTA, open and unencrypted. All BTW in the UHF bands.
could you possibly list the frequncies associated with the three muxes as well maybe?
 
Geoff, will check again later/tomorrow. On my Sunday post I did attach a frequency list from a Sentech site (Maybe outdated).

I also have an older LG HD TV (not Smart). This was purchased before SA finally decided what Digital TV system they were were going to adopt. The available default 'regions' in the setup screen are SA, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Digital and Analogue (the 'Digital' and 'Analogue' show as regions). Scanning using the bunny ears, I cannot find any digital channels within the presets regions - including the 'region' Digital (Analogue and those other Arab countries, tune analogue, no hassle). I then went deep into the setup options and I found that the pre-programmed Digital Channels frequencies on the LG differ slightly from those in the Sentech chart I posted on Sunday. It is possible to edit these pre-programmed channel frequencies but until I have a definite frequency list for Durban /Alverston, I'll leave it. Each programmed frequency is a couple of megs different from the published list and clicking from, say, 151200 to 150200 using a 'click arrow' which is very,very slow in responding, takes a great deal of patience. and for 2 megs, say, there are a lot of clicks.
 
Dont go and change anything, unless you make sure you write down what the original values are.

There are a number of DTT systems out there. SA ( along with many countries in Africa) chose the DVBT standard, then had to withstand a challenge which wnated to force on us the system usd in Brazil, before settling back on DVBT, only to find in the meantime th standard had moved on to the DVBT2 standard.

And then huge vested interests stepped in to further screw up the adoption, leading to the point where the need for STBs at all became obsolete, wheich led to an attempt to force on as all the adoption of a STB regardless by trying to enforce "encryption". Now thankfully, this has (I think) been put to bed. The lsat step would be to make it now possible for ALL TVs now to (legally) include difital tuners in them, instead of "forcing" tuners either not to be provided or, if that was not possible, to disable the tuners and make them inaccessible.

All for feeding the corruption and personal enrichment which the wave of entitlement caused.

Now the AMO Receiver is up and running what size USB external memory flash do you think is required for PVR time shift and should it be USB 2 or USB 3. The open view decoder works fine with its dedicated PVR stick which is 32GB :)

A 32GB will give you a few hours in HD. It's more than enough.

Half an hour on SABC 3 was just over 1GB on my TV - crisp and clear in 1080i

Seeing as some people are able to pick up DVB-T2 with a paper clip I think having an external one like this will help with picking up most of the channels. I'll give it a try on the weekend and see what happens.

So I gave it a try last weekend, no success. I plugged the aerial into the TV and it picked up the usual 2 channels, plugged it into the DVB-T2 box and t found nothing. I had it set to UK as country and a few others. Initially it was in Russian so I have quite a fun time to get it to English.

The picture quality looks a bit "sparkly" how were the other channels? I'm ordering a box off Takealot next week, hope it works with bunny ears. I'm about 10KMs from the Grabouw tower.
 
The signal is not great on the farm, they only pick up SABC 1 and 2 with the aerial and they both look equally bad.

The DVB-T2 box did not pick up anything. Might have to try it at home with a proper UHF antenna. What country should I set it too? Seems UK uses 8mhz bandwidth per channel and I am not sure it will work here.

AFAIK you okes have a DVB-T2 transmitter on the corner of the R44 and Helshoogte Road, on that hill before Idas Valley. I reckon you'll get reception with a paper clip.

@Geoff.D would be the right guy to ask about settings.
 
Yes that is the Stellenbosch one. I stay in Welgevonden so I am behind a hill. Last time we warched TV here was 2006 and back then I used a grid antenna in UHF orientation. Picture quality was poor. Trying a Yagi was worse, obviously due to no LOS.

I'm going to get an indoor UHF antenna and try it out.
 
Grid antennas are all wideband UHF Antennas. Either Vertical or horizontal . Depends on the polarisation used by the transmitters close to you. The only one I Can vouch for in CT is Tygerberg, which is Vertical. Select the one with LOS.
It is a simple process guys. Not complicated. If your TV had a DVBT2 tuner available, just let it scan for signals.
If the TV does not have a tuner you need a STB.
