SADV Installation Feedback/Progress for Estates/Complexes

if you're right next to a backhaul then it changes things slighlty.

You don't have to wait for a fibre provider.

Invest in a small OLT (hosts between 2 - 1024) .

drop the OLT (and a UPS) into your complex,
install fibre from the OLT to each unit.

connect a backhaul fibre (DFA?) to the OLT and you're good to go - kinda.

contact some ISP's and let them know you're online.

They'll come running with package offerings (and VLAN configurations) quicker than you can say cat-in-a-hat.

This works especially well with complexes, as the install costs are much lower compared to individual homes. Also, you most likely won't need wayleafs, dealing with the councils... It most likely is only going to cost each resident 3 - 4k installation and you'll have your fibre network.

Problem is of course to get everyone involved and invested into the project.

I don't know what you would bother with them, their service is beyond K*k, even Telkom service is better. I DARE them to prove me wrong.
 
So a company called Dibanats are here installing my fibre. The guy says they are contracted to Vodacom but are helping out SADV with installs. Will update with progress.

Edit: So installation is done :) Now the guys say that SADV will contact me to activate my line.

Looks like our install will finally be done by the weekend. They are splicing the last few joints and have started testing. Handover should be early next week. Then SADV have their standard 3 weeks of testing and provisioning, so installs should start in January. *fingers crossed*
 
Ok, so no fibre for me yet, maybe the whole of Ormonde, phases 4 & 5 are affected that I know of. Not sure of Evans Park. Just got off the call with Thabiso (I think) and she says that they have picked up issues with the splicing that was done by the previous company. So now they've got another company to re-do their work. No line activation for me :crying:
 
anybody perhaps know if SADV is installing Fibre in the Highbury / Kuilsriver area soon? Spoke to a Comtel guy on Saturday past and he told me that SADV is going to install in this area. Can anybody confirm?

Well that sucks. They'll be closed from 14 December until January too, I'm hoping to at least get installed before that

Yeah, our build contractor has some issues with SDC placements and connections. Not only in your suburb, we've had to do an audit of all their sites across GP.

It's sad how many providers do shitty jobs at install time and then WHEN they get bought over by bigger companies for their networks, they have to go in an basically re-do everything. Had the same experience with Evotel when Vodacom took over. Should have taken them 1 or 2 weeks, but it persisted for 4 months because Evotel did a shitty job to begin with.

Now my only problem is, I don't get the upload speed I pay for with Vodacom (even though I'm being charged at legacy prices which is half of what they actually charge currently)

The most useless fibre provider out there is TTConnect. When Evotel announced they sold to Vodacom and it was way more expensive (they dropped the pricing as I mentioned), our HOA got TTConnect in to build their fibre network here too to give people more choice. They installed all the cables etc and was "Ready" in November.... 2017. Still didn't light up, follow up on orders or bothered with communicating to the HOA.

Missed opportunity as they're quite big in my area, and if they did it right (and didn't have so many connectivity issues, leaving people without internet or phone for weeks), then I would have been happily paying CoolIdeas for what I have now and probably have a better experience too.

SADV IMO is far better than Vodacom or TTConnect (I had a SADV fibre line before at a previous complex I lived in)

SADV are the worst. There service is bad and installation will take months.
