Safely selling your used items

Why is your rating not 100%

Also curious to know what did you do to get banned on Carbonite?
I never joined Carbonshite, just heard from other people how crap it is, and I have dealt with some carboncrap buyers here on myBB, so I believe what I heard.

If you look at my rating you will see it is spanning a period of nearly 2 decades. In that time I have had people that did not read the description of goods they bought and then were upset and mad about it. Had they asked me about it, even after buying, I would have given them a refund in full with no need to return anything - something I have done a few times. Hence the high rating.

+1 for Carbonite. Great platform, mods are active in banning scammers, effective rating system for buyers AND sellers, strict rules around what constitutes a negative rating and robust systems in place to enforce that. All disputes happen in public and with transparency.

People who complain about it are usually those who couldn't be arsed to read site rules, broke one of them, were called out for the infraction, then threw their toys out the cot about said calling out. Seen it happen time and time again.

Carbonite's review system would have allowed you to dispute the negative rating, get it removed, and maintain that squeaky clean record.

Don't think it's really fair to judge something without having tried it yourself. But anyways each to their own.

I have bought and sold a few things on Fb marketplace but scanned profiles and only from people close to me and when their address is in a good part of city. Many news articles of people getting robbed and killed the last year on FB marketplace, so I try to rather avoid it.
Local Whatsapp groups are ok, but many cheapskates and they normally just buy big bargains.
Carbonite works great if you only deal with high itrader members, but its mostly tech, other stuff don't really sell.

I am more worried why OP does not want people at his house or more why buyers threaten him? Did you sell them broken stuff?

Safest, fastest and easiest is Cash converters, but you not going to get full price.
Best answer I can give to this one is, we live in South Africa. Which is sad in my opinion. Just by the way I have never sold to anyone yet.

I don't have time for low ballers and ego trippers - why would I when there are other platforms that work perfectly well and does way more than carbontripe?
Both BoB and Yaga now offers door to door courier options, nationwide, starting from R30. Not to mention their integrated payment systems.

I have also sold and bought here on myBB as well on Bikehub - no issues (except for the few odd crapbontight peeps also here on myBB),

Just out of curiosity I went to carbonblight and was surprised to have a logon - one I seem to have not used in years because I was presented with :

So it seems the terms and conditions are extremely similar at this site (which you are happy to use) and the other one.

I just want to also take this opportunity to say:
CarbonShite
carbonpoop
carboncrap
carbontripe

These little terms of affection really are very sweet and make you seem like a very cute and endearing individual.

I don't get why so few people are using escrow services. I've used Paysho a few times - rates are cheap, and at least you'll know that you've received the item, or that the buyer has transferred the funds. I've even had people refuse to use an escrow (I gave them the option of which escrow to use, with cost on me), because they didn't know what it was (or was trying to scam, more likely).
I would probably also not use it.

Only Bob has R30 options, Yaga the cheapest is Pudo at R50?

I've sold tons of stuff on Gumtree, and tons of stuff on Marketplace.

Mostly cash but not all the time. I've had instant EFT's and some weird FNB thing you just tap your phones. But I double check my account and make it clear to them that I won't give you the product until the money clears in my account. I have had one lady say to me, "oh am I a skellem now" and I just said, "I don't know you from a bar of soap, that's the deal take it or leave it."

I live in an estate so prefer people come to my house, their car licence is scanned, ID's and a photo taken etc. If they want to try run off with my goods I just call security and they can't leave the estate.

I have also sold some expensive items (R25k) to a guy in Cape Town, he paid me without seeing it and days later his friend came to pick it up... this has happened a few times, people seem to be very trustworthy. But again I make it clear you get nothing until the money clears in my account, I normally wait 2-3 days to be 100% sure.

I have had some massively cool experiences on gumtree. Bought a leather couch arrived at the place. US diplomats that just started listing items and said look around and let us know if you want anything.

Bought an antique late 1800s chest of drawers R500, massive yellow wood governement desk (my current work desk with two sidebyside mounted screens) another R500. Then hey I heard you restore furniture and build some yourself want a free early 1900 oak rolltop desk that we shipped to three countries with working locking mech, key etc. UM YES.

So you get really awesome experiences but ALWAYS BE SAFE

I honestly think your logic is flawed. You basically bashing a site for getting a few lowball offers, something which one can easily just ignore.

Actually you bashing the site on hearsay and not your actual experience and potentially causing someone not to use one of the most used tech classified sites in South Africa.

It's the equivalent of hating BMW's because you read somewhere that a few BMW drivers don't use turn signals.

But anyways like I said each to their own. If Yaga and BOB work for you, great stuff!
