Sage VIP payroll: COBOL?

I don't know if this is a bad thing, but I managed to crash a Sage VIP payroll demo twice and the error message referred to COBOL:

Index out of bounds, upper bound = 12, index = 0
COBOL error at 162743 in VIPPAY22 ... etc

I don't know anything about programming, but I really thought COBOL was a very old programming language and had largely been replaced by other languages? Should I be worried?
