he Galaxy A55 is a true return to form, especially when it comes to device performance. For what seems like the first time, we have a mid-range Galaxy phone with an Exynos chip that is optimized out of the box and will not need months of updates to perform like any phone in its segment should.

Battery life is excellent out of the box as well, unlike the Galaxy A54, which had underwhelming endurance at launch. It also addresses complaints some Samsung fans have had for years about its phones not feeling as premium as less costly Chinese devices, with a metal frame and high-quality Gorilla Glass Victus+ surrounding the entire device.

It's only the camera setup that feels a little out of place here considering the Galaxy A55's price point. That macro camera needs to die, the ultra-wide and selfie cameras are due for an upgrade, and we wouldn't say no to a newer, better sensor for the primary camera.

Samsung is clearly keeping some things for later, such as slimmer bezels and improved cameras, and we get it. The company cannot afford to bring huge upgrades to its devices every year, not without affecting the asking price.

We're pleased with everything the Galaxy A55 does offer and can recommend it to anyone in the market for a new mid-range phone. It's also the first phone we can recommend as an upgrade for Galaxy A52, A52 5G, and Galaxy A52s owners.

However, we would also suggest checking prices for the Galaxy S23 FE. In some markets, like India, it's available at prices similar to the Galaxy A55 on third-party retailers like Amazon. The S23 FE came out six months earlier with an older version of Android and One UI, but overall, it's easily the superior device.

if work is paying... and if you are just going to use it for work and nothing else, I don't think you can go wrong with either.

A55 will be newer, better gorilla glass and will have longer software support by one year. Will most likely be cheaper on contract

S23FE will have better performance. Will probably cost more on contract.

again, not sure of your actual use case but i guess your work's cellphone allowance will be the deciding factor here.

Not really on the Software support, as it's an S tier phone vs A tier

The A55 costs as much as the S23 FE in some regions (if it's even available). The A35 doesn't offer much that the old (and now cheap) A54 does.

The gsmarena comments sections are more toxic than mybb forum tho...

most of these opinions are based on raw hardware specs alone tho...as an all round package i think that these are pretty good.

could they be cheaper... i think so... in most countries they seem to drop in price within a few months of launch. Not so much in SA unfortunately... which is a real shame.

If I have the money, I wouldn't mind replacing my Xiaomi with the A35. A55 is too much for a phone and I dont see the value in spending that on a compact communication device, personally. Even the A35 is quite expensive.
 
Went with the S23 Fe for the wife, it's not a massive upgrade from her A54, but it's enough of a jump to bring it over the A55. Only reason she got the A54 last year is because she dropped her Redmi Note 10 pro in the pool last year so it was glitching like crazy, so I picked up an A54 for about R4500, which it really was a bargain.
