Samsung Galaxy Note 2

So I installed OmniRom 4.4.4 nightly build looks and works great but I have a problem lost the Sim Application Toolkit (STK) to use the MTN Banking to complete some payments that go through the phone. Is there anyway to install this and get it to work?

I'm finally looking at rooting and installing a custom ROM on my phone, I've read a couple of how to's but I'm still a bit confused and worried about bricking it.

As I understand it I need to root first using something like Odin or CWM?

Then back up the phone and then install the ROM that I'm interested in?

Any tips, advice, pointers would be appreciated.

I'd highly recommend going with Cyanogenmod.
Easiest install of them all and works really well.

I installed Cyanogenmod. It's a clean Android without bloat.

My install failed and I had to do it manually (was unusable). The instructions weren't quite right (a step was out of order) and you needed the Android SDK.

You don't need root, they have a installer on the site.

To get it to work:
- uninstall any Samsung software and USB drivers from your PC
- do a factory reset of the phone
- know a techie in case you get stuck ;)

See, this is why I get confused :p

Other articles I've read say you need to root and have the latest USB drives installed?

And I know you're a techie so thanks for volunteering :D

Recently they've started working without root... I've not installed cyanogenmod for ages now so I don't know the new version

Cyanogenmod will autoroot using the towel exploit these days. They want to get greater penetration amoungst the masses:twisted:

What is the latest firmware version for Vodacom on the Note 2? Are they on 4.3 or 4.3.3? and is it stable?

4.4.2 and yes, it's stable

Thanks, I upgraded via OTA and the upgrade was successful, I was upgraded to 4.3, I noticed that the phone lags somewhat and that some of the feature are gone for eg. the multiwindow option is therefore highlighted in green but its like its greyed out... Then I checked kies 3 and it says that im on the latest version. How did you get to 4.4.2?

Thanks, I reinstalled my firmware now and im still on 4.3 :(

Anyway, you can download it off the sammobile site and install manually if you want
