Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Who are you getting the insurance with? What price is it roughly?

FNB give the option to insure it for R41-00 per month.
That does not cover accidental (negligent) damage or water damage.

Outsurance quoted me R442-36 to insure my N2 and 2 x S2.
Santam quoted me R201-60 to insure the same phones.

Santam seem to be quite a bit cheaper on a quote I asked for 2 cars, house contents and the phones, when compared to Outsurance.
When I called Outsurance to see if they could beat or equal the quote, they sent me a pamphlet showing why it is better to have OUTsurance rather than INsurance.
I cancelled my Outsurance policy, and have taken up the Santam quote.

I am super impressed on the vastly improved wifi range/sensitivity of the Note 2 compared to my old S2, wifi dropouts are now largely a thing of the past.

My S2 used to drop regularly when I was some distance from the AP, the Note 2 seems an order of magnitude better.

Apple is patent trolling again!

Apple hopes to take more prisoners in its patent war against arch rival Samsung, asking a judge to add six of the Korean company’s flagship phones and tablets to the list of gadgets infringing upon its patents.

Apple contends it has “good cause” to add the Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi, Rugby Pro and Galaxy III Mini to its lawsuit against Samsung.

I hate it when Apple tries to compare something like the Note 2 to their inferior iPhone. They just want to be associated with the market leaders, now they sue them to have their name appear in headlines

When you can no longer innovate, you litigate.
Just a bunch of sore losers (Apple). I have actually come to hate everything they stand for. Damned bullies.

The N2 is streaks ahead of anything iCrap at the moment.

/Rant over (they not actually thaaaaat bad)

I often feel the same. The Note 2 is so ahead of anything Apple has it is a frikkin insult to themsleves that they even dare to bring it into the case. All Samsung should do now is put the Note 2 on the judge's bench and demand Apple put their equivalent on the bench to prove Samsung copied them. What a joke. Sad part is no-one at Apple HQ has the sensibility to stop the comedy show.

I have rooted my phone using the Toolkit found here. The kit just makes it FEEL a bit safer, it still uses Odin to flash.

Anyways, had it rooted very easily in a few minutes. I'd recommend this method as it is really easy

I have to agree it's quick and painless, even I managed it :D

Has anyone flashed the N7100XXALIE firmware? I'm just scared it messes with my CSC

EDIT: I think ALIE is older than what I had (ALJ1)? And ALJ3 is newer?

I'm curious about two things:
1. Anyone know whether SA will eventually get the dual-sim Note II?
2. Will FNB eventually offer the N7105 (LTE Note II)?

I'd love either of those two options but don't know how much longer I can hold out to get a Note II :D

Hi, guys,

Got myself a Note 2 yesterday - brand new out of the box, standard os. My problem is that downloading via wifi is very slow! Have a 4meg line and my iphone and my laptop have no problems downloading. I can watch youtube vids and browse the internet just fine, but downloading apps seem to take forever. Anybody else have the problem locally - seems to be an issue elsewhere.

the samsung app store is very very slow keeps asking me to update and then times out after 1/100
i find the google store very fast for getting apps

Is it worth holding out for the Note 2 LTE, or should I just get the normal one? Ideally I'd like to get a new phone by the 12th Dec (on Vodacom at the moment).

I didn't wait for the LTE version because I am on wifi about 90% of the day, and when I am not I am worried about data charges. HSDPA should be fine for streaming youtube and such. Lastly, I wont be selling my phone in the future so I'm not worried about LTE

Has anyone been able to use Swiftkey? I have tried it but cant get the S-pen writing pad to open when I want that

Got the phone yesterday at 1pm. Amazing device to be honest
