As far as I know you are able to root on 4.3 without tripping Knox, so your warranty will not be voided. Maybe someone else can confirm this.

Well it matters what device, but it matters how you do it. Search Google for "your device name, root without unlocking boot loader". That means you won't be able to run custom ROM's but will hopefully be rooted.

I actually haven't done any backup ever. Don't know why. Maybe its because I don't quite understand the backup concept and what it benefits you. Nevermind media.

What exactly does a backup utility backup? And what can it restore? Surely it can't back up or restore the whole app? Or can it? I just redownload, relogin, etc.
One of my apps isn't internet based, and i prefer it that way. so i can't back it up.

If you use Helium, then you can backup apps and their data on unrooted devices.

I will try helium. Wish there was a solid Mac backup system.

Thanks for the insight.

haven't tried it. have the free version, backedup to my SD, doubt it worked, the folder structure it created is extremely small.

have you actually used the app?

I have only used it to backup my apps and data. Haven't had the chance to restore apps yet, but I see no reason why it shouldn't work.

It includes all app apk's (some big games) and their data. It's about 100 apps. No this doesn't include media. I have all my music and images on my SD card so I don't do a backup of that.

ok then. i think mine failed. maybe ran out of space, my SD is probably not big enough... booo!!!

Yeah I checked there was a really cool ROOt method, but it's been patched in 4.4.2 :(

That Pen Window Manager app looks so epic

Check this site out https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3099271 - See Post's 8 and 9 specifically ..

The impression here is that one can root quite easily the N9005 if its 4.3 and below the MJ1 version.

If after the procedure described on this site is carried out, one can then upgrade to KitKat 4.4.2 and still have Root without tripping Knox !!! (Apparently there is a 'safe' boot-loader and there is an 'unsafe' boot-loader - If you are initially on MJ1 you 'probably' have the 'safe' boot-loader) ..

I haven't tried the Root'ing or KitKat upgrade (I'm on MTN) - yet ............
