:sick:And here I'm getting about 6 hours out of my 2 year old HTC sensation with little to no use. Last FNB payment is this month and seriously considering getting the Note 3 from them. I'm still busy with the self-justification reasoning stage. :)

I was in the reasoning stage since the note 1 came out and now I coulndt be happier. Well worth it. It is the best cellphone experience ever.

I've been hmmm'ing and haaa'ing since the Note2....mainly because of the size difference. I started with an original Galaxy S, then an S3, and now currently an S4. The hardware and features of the Note 3 make it a no brainer but I just haven't been able to justify the size difference for everyday use :-(
(not yet anyway....but I'm working on it :-D)

anyone know anyway i can get the gear free as i signed my contract o the 07.10.13 and thats when jhb had it free...

Just in case anyone is interested, Cellucity stocks the black S-View cover for the Note 3. Bought one today at the Clear Waters branch (Roodepoort).
Priced at R799. But ask them for a 10% discount. Check their website for more details on discount.

hi selago
thanks for the info,
got the black S view cover from Cellucity ,Durban.
Paid R599 with discount..!!( yes, i asked for it )
I had the white and was not happy with feel, touch, looks etc ,and was after S view black cover as i had black Note 3 etc...
Black s view cover feels softer and looks better with my phone.
thank you again .

Just for interest sake, anyone get insurance for their Note 3 yet? I know it has ADH but what about accidental loss and theft (That'll suck big time at a R8999 price tag). In an ideal world, insurers should Note(:D) that premium Samsung's have ADH and should offer a accidental loss and theft only insurance premium for these devices... or is there something like this?

I don't have any insurance on my phone. I had insurance on my phones (at a price) for approximately 12 years, in that time I lost my phone once. (was a cheap phone in any case and my own stupidity)

I cancelled my insurance 2 years ago, I take good care of my phone and I don't leave it laying around where someone could be tempted to take it.

I'm not taking chances. I drive arounfld a lot, I see lots of people, I go to places in the middle of nowhere. I'd rather spend the extra R100-odd and not worry about losing it or being robbed. poop happens and I'm not willing to be stuck with a R429pm contract with no awesome phone.

I agree with you 100%. How much are you paying for the insurance and who are you insuring with? And did you insure it for it's full amount of r9k? I checked the quotes on hippo and they are all R200 plus pm for the note 3.

I've never had insurance before on any phone and only one got stolen (my own doing - drunken hatfield night) and this is the first phone which I feel insurance is needed.

Also never had insurance on a phone. And I have never lost one. (I used my moto droid as a pillow once at synergy, but it survived). I dont really need insurance. When I go partying I take an old ****ed up blackberry. And if I am not partying im at home. So the ADH is enough for me

My problem with the data connection randomly dropping seems to be better. I played arround with the network settings and switched the network mode to WCDMA only. Now it is holding the connection better. I will monitor and see if it stays like this. My cell signal on the other hand is still not the strongest. Never really stable, keeps on bouncing between 2,3 and 4 bars.

I was missing phone calls, and I even tried calling my phone while it clearly said MTN - SA and 2 bars of reception and it was going to voicemail. I was ready to return the phone to MTN and try a new one. Then I read online that the problem might be because of LTE. I disabled LTE and chose WCDMA/GSM only (I am always on Wifi anyway) now it seems fine.

I think the problem was it wasn't switching to 2G/3G when the phone calls were coming in. MTN website says :

"The LTE network currently does not allow for phone calls, SMS and USSD to be used over the LTE network. Your phone will temporarily switch to the 2G/3G network allowing you to make calls, send SMSs and use USSD functions. - See more at: http://www.mtnblog.co.za/get-up-to-speed-with-mtn-lte/"

Ok, I've posted this on another thread, but in case you miss it, here goes:

Here's something else one needs to consider, regarding the Note 3 and Telkom Mobile.

TM's LTE network operates in the 2300MHz band.
The Note 3 LTE version (N9005) which is distributed by Samsung SA in this country operates in the 800MHZ, 850, 900, 1800, 2100 and 2600MHz bands only.

IT WON'T WORK ON TMs LTE NETWORK.

So they will only offer the N9000 device.
The N9000 has the octa-core (1.9GHz quad-core Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7) chipset.
You will note be able to use the 2.3 GHz quad-core on the TM LTE network.

The N9000 which is most likely what TM will be offering will not be capable of 4K UHD video recording.
At the moment this feature is useless unless you have a R 360,000 Samsung TV.

Processor:
N9005: Quad-core 2.26 GHz Krait 400 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU; Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset
N9000: Quad-core 1. 9GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7, Mali-T628 MP6 GPU; Exynos 5420 chipset

Video recording:
N9005: 2160p video recording @ 30fps, 1080p @ 60fps, 720p @ 120fps
N9000: 1080p @ 30fps; continuous autofocus and stereo sound

Above specs courtesy of GSMArena.

This may not be a deal-breaker for many, but it's good to know what you're getting yourself into...
The N9000 appears to be a sub-prime device.

From what I can tell, it seems like only MTN and Vodacom have LTE networks compatible with the Note 3. Cell- C does not appear to be offering the LTE version.
MTN and Vodacom have refarmed their available spectrum for their LTE network, which is not ideal, compared to TMs LTE network which does not have this problem, except they are on an incompatible frequency band.
I am in a well-covered MTN area, but often find myself on their EDGE network. If they cannot offer good 3G coverage, I am extremely skeptical about paying a premium for their LTE network. This is why I was seriously considering porting away from them.

I stand to be corrected, but this is just what I was able to figure out...

Nice info mate. Just to add something positive about the n9000... I have run antutu on both the n9000 And the n9005 and I can confirm the score on the n9005 is just sub 30000, the n9000 is just sub 35000

Thanks for sharing, - that's one positive.
I guess the battery life on the N9000 will be better than on the N9005 as well, so that's another positive...

Cool, not sure about the battery life. With the s4, the snap dragon lte outperformed the Samsung chip. I can post antutu screen shots if you like. Let me know.

Wrt the lte, I guess realistically we are not seeing the speeds from the networks that can justify the lte. Also, we have Wifi in most places and finally, besides the nicety of having the latest technology I suppose one could question what on earth the use of 50 mbps Internet on a cell would be?

I'm not one that believe in performance scores, but to entertain myself I ran Antutu on my n9005, got a 36000+ score. (stock rom not rooted)

hi all ,
for starters i have to echo what Dom1n8r1x states above!!
benchmarks really means nothing(its the real life experience and usage that counts )
i also ran Antutu on n9005( lte snapdragon ) and came up with 36000+
To me its a 2.3 ghz quadcore (n9005 )against a 1.9 ghz (n9000 ) that is of interest .
Battery life on n9005 is very good for me ,for starters in standby mode (sleep )
10 hours plus, only 3% drop.
further (overall battery usage for me has been very stable and good )
i would say (from my experience in past ,present with regarding relevant issues )the n9005 seems a better purchase.( to me )
even though i have not got lte signal in my area ,i have to think ahead for next 2 years usage...
(as it is investment of present and future ) and bottom line if i am in lte area i have got option to use it.!
So my advice ( for the undecided ) is if you can choose ..good
otherwise take what you can ,both version is excellent overall.!!
