Havent gotten it back yet. Should probably just buy the real one and stop messing with the beta.
I never had that problem yet. Bought the Full Version in October when I got the Note 3.

1) Disable LTE. Settings > Connections > More networks > Mobile networks > Network mode. Make sure LTE is not connected. This is a biggie! You don't need it for 95% of the time when it's on, and you probably can live with surfing at 3G/HSDPA speeds. Turn it back on if you need to stream Yoot00bs.
2) Pull down the notifications centre and find "Power saving" in the icons at the top.
3) Disable "Mobile data" from the notification centre where possible. I have Wifi at home and at work. This saves A LOT of battery life too.
What icon is displayed when you connected to lte, or is it just h+ icon in top right?

I Must Say H+ is quite quick too!!
Most definitely, i haven't found an instance when i wished i had LTE all the time. HD Youtube videos generally play with no buffering / lag.

Does it not feel smoother and faster to you.?
4.4 can't really be faster than 4.3, if 4.3 was fast already, although there might be tweaks here and there. Both have 'Project Butter' which refreshes the display at 60fps, so smoothness should be the same.
has anybody tried to turn their lan connection of their laptop into a wifi hotspot so you can connect your phone. i have done this on windows, no issues, but my note 3 is struggling to obtain an IP address...
Nope. I use a wifi router.
